I find that very very very unlikely. Especially considering neither Roy or Sakic has said anything about him.

Garth snow and the islanders owners are terrible.

Doesn't retain half a mil for bernier so they lose him, then they don't retain a few mil on vanek and get scraps in return. Brutal.

Wording is key in there. That doesn't mean he didn't get inquiries. If, as rumored, Minnesota/Toronto called and started off by checking the Isles willingness to keep salary/take a bad contract(as both would have needed to shed salary in order to make a deal), and Snow flat out said no(as also rumored they werent willing to take salary).

Then its correct to say he didn't get any "offers".

It is in french, but basically it said that Bergevin refused to trade Gionta to the New Jersey Devils. The offer was a 2nd round + a prospect going to Montreal.

By "heard" you mean you read Eklund, right? He was the only one who mentioned that.

Ironically, the guy reads HFboards and he mentioned Spezza to the Avs two days after a Sens fan proposed Spezza for Landeskog.

But who though? That's what I'm struggling with. Stastny is a pending UFA, which is not Nonis' MO. Duchene, MacKinnon, and Landeskog are pipe dreams. Leafs would have to add considerably for ROR, which wouldn't make it a young-player for young-player deal. Doesn't leave much of a fit.

With the price Montreal paid i would have been willing to give up a 1st and any prospect on our team (not in our lineup). But i guess the Isles really didnt want to take on any cap and/or they like Collberg better than our packaged offer.

Vanek in the Leafs lineup gives the Leafs a top 9 that could match up with anyone in the playoffs.
looks dangerous. But unless im remebering incorrectly, Toronto doesnt have their next 3 second round picks right?

Holland deal
Bolland deal
Bernier deal

and the leafs seriously lack the top offensive prospects to compare with Collberg do they not? Josh Levio is as good as an offensive prospect as you have.

unless of course you include your 1st?

The Leafs and Minnesota had better offers apparently for Vanek but in the Leafs case the Islanders didn't want to retain any salary so they took the Montreal deal. Snow is an idiot.

What?

Edit: So thats why they didn't get Bernier cause they didn't retain salary? I know for sure the Leafs took on an extra $500,000 in the Bernier deal.

Retaining Salary was one of the things LA wanted, I don't know if it was the main reason why they chose toronto but I'm guessing toronto was one of the only teams willing to retain salary, also the fact that Frattin+scrivens already had low cap hits and LA was in severe cap contraints that summer (they were also exploring the possibility of trading Clifford due to salary contraints)

The only picks the Leafs are missing are their 2014 and 2015 2nd rounders, other than that we have at least 1 pick in every round. We're back to full strength in 2016.

You wouldnt be getting close to any of those guys from the Avs with just Gardiner...

Try McGinn. If there was trade talks between the Avs/Leafs involving two young players swapping teams, that was almost certainly the trade. Glad the Avs didnt do it.

Snow is full of crap.

I can guarantee you Fletcher made an offer on Vanek, but was turned away because the price was too high. Same thing happened last year which is why he got Pominville instead.

thats probably exactly what happened because Moulson was never mentioned as a target for Minnesota until later in the day. All the talk seemed to focus in on Moulson going to LA or Anaheim

Read my post again. I didn't claim they could get any of those players. While I agree that McGinn would be closer in value, the Avs would have to add to him to get Gardiner. Nonis wouldn't pull the trigger for anything but a legit top-6 guy if we're talking forwards.
