I would hope so, he's gotten much better from the start of the season...now sitting at 6 G, 18 A, 24 PTS -1. I don't understand what the obsession is with soon to be UFA Eric Brewtal (by which his play in Edmonton certainly warranted that nickname) when you can have a much better offensive defenceman and have him locked up long-term?

I'll take a progressively better Corvo than a stagnant Brewer any day.

I agree with you on the last point, but this Oilers teams doesn't need him nor do they have space(cap or roster) for him. I would rather see the kids, ie Gilbert, Chorney or Grebashev(sp) playing in the same roll for less money.

I certainly hope not. And, I wouldn't say Brewer has been stagnant either. He's just being Brewer. They guy always plays his best hockey in the second half, and this year is no different. Since the all-star break, he's been terrific, and I'd take Brewer over Corvo every single time.

I highly doubt Corvo is going anywhere until the end of the playoffs. His salary is on par with others of his calibre throughout the league. We (ottawa) need him in the playoffs. We have seven top 6 defencemen (including Schubert playing on the wing) and unless another D man is coming back our way, i doubt he will be traded.

Having said that, Corvo had a rough time at the beginning of the year. I think he will only get better. His play has improved greatly in recent weeks. However, he still remains a senator fan's whipping dog because our D is quite strong and deep... until Schubert.

I would hope not. I would take Brewer over Corvo most days. Look at the type of opposition Brewer faces, he's a top pairing D-man these for St.Louis and plays tough minutes. While Corvo faces easy minutes on a deep Sens defence. On his numbers, i would hope they are good, i mean that Sens team is pretty stacked, has alot of talent through the line-up. Brewer is the guy for this team hands down IMO. Corvo IMHO is a bigger more expensive version of MAB, no thanks, $2.5 mil is too expensive for someone like him.

I would take Brewer over Corvo 7 days a week and twice on Sunday's. At least Brewer can play on a top pairing. Corvo is nicely sheltered in Ottawa, but in no way can he be considered a top pairing guy.

Why on earth is Corvo someone we should be targeting? At his contract amount, there are a bunch of D-men I would take over him.

Count me firmly in the "No to Corvo" camp.

Agreed, I'd take Brewer over Corvo any day and would rather spend what Corvo's salary is (I believe it's 2.5) on a UFA defencemen.

I think it was Howson that said when asked about Corvo as a possibility that he is not exactly a spring chicken and makes too much money [for what he brings on the ice]. I would agree with that.

what are his PP numbers?

I'd be fine with a 71/16 combo back there but the Oilers seemingly never were, at least not 5 on 4, but I don't think we can afford to pay a 5 or a 6 that much to be a PP specialist. We already have enough dummies, ie Smid-Greene, that needs to be sheltered and we don't need another one
