Isn't JVR's brother supposed to be a highly regarded college FA this year?

Rangers get one of the most-coveted NCAA free agents

Quote:
Wednesday afternoon the Rangers announced that the club has agreed to terms with undrafted free agent forward Ryan Haggerty, a Stamford, CT. native who has played the past three years in college at R.P.I. Haggerty will join the Rangers following their road trip this week. Since Haggerty signed an NHL deal starting with this season, he can not be assigned to the AHL because it is post-deadline.

The 6-foot, 180 pound Haggerty led R.P.I. in scoring this past season with a career-best 43 points in 35 games. Haggerty also led the team with 28 goals, 10 power play goals, and six game-winners--all career-high numbers for the 21 year-old. In three seasons at R.P.I. Haggerty appeared in 106 games, totaling 84 points including 47 goals.
Hagerty was never drafted.

Haggerty's been to the Rangers development camp before. It's a good pickup. Kind of hoping the Rangers pick up Trevor Van Riemsdyk as well. I know his brother grew up a Rangers fan. Rangers don't have a lot of players that I would expect to be returning to their AHL farm next year--nor do they have many--maybe not anyone graduating from the CHL or among their European or College draft picks--for next season. I think there are going to be a number of openings to be had in Rangersland next year for CHL and college free agents who are skilled and interested enough. IMO in the area of player development the Rangers are behind--even far behind most NHL teams.

This blog seems to believe he's signed an ATO with Wilkes-Barre Scanton, the Penguins AHL affiliate for this year.

I have a question about Flyers prospect Fredric Larsson (4th round 2012) & when he has to be signed.

He played in the U20 league in Sweden his first year after being drafted & is now playing the USHL US this year, a reporter who is employed by the Flyers wrote a write up on all our prospects not too long & said him & the Flyers were looking to get him into the NCAA next year. My question would be do they get an extension on his rights if he does indeed go that route or do they still lose it this summer?

From the CBA :

If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 becomes a bona fide college student prior to the second June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft and remains a bona fide college student through the graduation of his college class, his drafting Club shall retain the exclusive rights of negotiation for his services through and including the August 15 following the graduation of his college class.

If he chooses the NCAA route, the Flyers will own his rights until the summer of 2018.

It's just an ATO

So I believe that still makes him an FA.

BTW, Columbus did finally confirm the signing of Dano.

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Marko Dano to a three-year entry level contract, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Dano, 19, was Columbus’ third first round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, selected 27th overall.

I would expect he'll begin the season in the AHL, though there is some thought he could go to the WHL.

Now, that could be an AHL deal to play with Hartford, though I expect it will be an NHL deal.
