Your favourite non-home team colour commentator?

Outside your own team's, who is your favourite colour commentator?

I think Pang's pretty good. Chico is my favourite though, purely because he goes off on these weird tangents.

Best color commentators (just thinking of them in alphabetical order by team...then missing someone or two and going back...so no particular order) -

Brian Hayward - I know a lot don't like him, but he actually is pretty smart and tells it like it is a lot of the time. Not afraid to pull a couple punches. Knows goaltending.

Andy Brickley - Definitely one of the best, very good at describing the play and the action. Maybe the best at pure analysis in the game.

Darryl Reaugh - Funniest guy in the game, very knowledgeable, a real hockey lifer. His lexicon is eclectic as well. Razorisms are terrifical. Razor once said that he'd drink a gallon of bleach if Steve Ott wasn't on the team one season and I think Dallas Stars fans would say the same if it wasn't for Ralph and Razor.

Drew Remenda - Right up there with Andy Brickley with analysis. Understands the game well. Also tries to tell it like it is. Great chemistry with Randy Hahn.

Pierre McGuire - Most knowledgeable, in terms of both obscure facts like high school coaches and grade school playmates...but also understands the game very well...you can tell he struggles with a) normal social interaction and controlling the volume of his voice b) Deciding how much analysis is too much analysis - how much does he have to dumb it down for the "growing" audience instead of the "hardcore" audience...he also must consider how unintelligent Eddie Olczyk is, and though he tries to serve him up softballs during telecasts, the 15 seconds of dead air that Olczyk uses to consider what Pierre is saying is as noticeable as Edzo's gambling addiction...

Ray Ferraro - Might be the harshest of them all, and for me that puts him near the top. Not enough guys tell it like it is. Goalies don't have bad games, they have "average" games. NFL quarterbacks don't have bad games, they have "economical days" - Ferraro has a great understanding of the game, a vast amount of experience, a good eye for talent and not much of a filter. Probably the best combo for the most hardcore fans that really get the game. For slightly more casual fans, he probably is slightly too advanced and abrasive...

Edit: Ya know who I forgot of the national guys...Brian Engblom, he talks a lot, but he really got a lot better at this from his ESPN days. Really has a good idea of the game being played, even at the angle that he's at. Really quality guy. Strangely, he talks more nationally than he does on TSN Jets it feels like, but still he's good guy. Really improved a lot in recent years. Very smart.

Sending in the clowns...

Rob Ray - Let's sum it up with a recent quote..."guys score on a breakaway 80% of the time..." [PBP: where'd that stat come from?] "I don't know, I just made it up..." - well, for better or worse, at least his shenanigans are cheeky and fun...unlike Tyson Nash and Louie DeBrusk...evil shenanigans...

Chico Resch - Not for any other reason than he's hilarious...sometimes unintentionally...was way better with Doc, they had great chemistry and provided a lot of laughs...in terms of actually being a color guy, well, that's another story...but he is colo(u)rful...

Butch Goring - Do a shot every time he messes up a name or saying and you'll be dead by puck drop...funny, but unlike Chico, it's always unintentionally...

Bob Errey - See Chico Resch, but with a little better game analysis. But more extraneous goobery...The Errey Soundboard could use an update and it would be the most used non-pornographic website on the internet...

Darren Pang - See: Bob Errey.

SJ is probably my favorite broadcast team, so whatever that guy's name is. I like Engblom a lot too but I'm pretty sure he's only national

God, that was so true for that season too. And definitely the case for the past 5 years of Stars hockey without them.

I really love the duo of Bob Miller and Jim Fox, even though I can't stand the way Fox ends every sentence.

Bruins, Kings and Ducks are all noticeably good from what I've seen. A few others too.

Nashville. They keep the homerism to a relative minimum and know other teams well.
