****in great news Hagg will be with the Phantoms come next Monday. Guy looks very promising and will be a stud on the Flyers blueline in the foreseeable future.

What about the other swedish talent we have on D? You know, the guy with the badass, 80's pornstar mustache, forgot his name.

Any updates on his progression?

Still up in the air on contract length. Cant see how he gets a 1 year deal when he is 19 and was just drafted. Unless the new CBA changed something.

Edit: he is here for only the rest of the season guys. He will be going back to europe for 1 more season.

Quote:
The move appears as though the Flyers are pushing the defensive prospect who is perhaps the furthest along in development. They’re not. This doesn’t mean Hägg will be in the AHL to start next season. The Flyers’ announcement that they’ve agreed to terms with Hägg is only for the rest of this season. It’s not an entry-level contract. He’s still expected to play in Europe at least one more season
-Dave Issac

Edit2: Well now people are saying that this might not be true and it is only a 1 year contract. I have no idea

Next, I think it is quickly conceivable he was implying Hagg will be playing in the AHL and the Flyers are progressing his development quicker with that. Well, fact is that Morin can not play in the AHL because of the CHL agreement. Hagg has the opportunity to jump on AHL ice and the Flyers and Hagg seem to think that was the best option.

Hagg playing in the AHL and signing his deal has no impact on the Flyers view of Morin, that's why I jump on the guy. He is paid to cover a hockey team, he should know the reasons why this deal makes sense. Instead he makes a dumb(not the first time) comment....

Or perhaps...you know...he just thinks Haag has progressed more than Morin. Nope. He's a hack! It has to be that he is a hack because he is a hack! Find something else to complain about.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but at least from his bio it sounds like he has covered sports at all levels (high school, pros, NCAA) since the 70s. Similarly, if he's working at the Inquirer, there really is no other jump to make. If he's covering high school sports, he's going to jump to a very popular professional or not at all. How do you think a writer makes it to covering a professional team? They take some other route besides writing professionally about sports (not just newspaper articles, but books too) for thirty years? Come on. I know the Philly media is weak. I'm not really a big fan of any of the guys that write about the Flyers, but *****ing about this tweet or the fact that Carchidi covered high school sports is silly.

Dave Isaac retracting what he said it sounds like. Its best we just wait until contract details are released. What we know is that he'll be a Phantom next week.

Has to be 3 years if indeed he is signing an ELC and not just an ATO

That's fine. I've got no problem with being skeptical or critical of the crappy journalists that cover the Flyers, but only when it is warranted. I wonder how folks would have reacted if Meltzer tweeted that?

Bill, if you're reading this, do you think Haag has progressed quicker than Morin, or at the very least, was Sam Carchidi's tweet unreasonable in stating that?

I do believe they will keep him over here next year to get him use to the ice surface and competition against other teams younger high quality talent and they can closely monitor his playing time and development.

The SHL is equivalent to the AHL, perhaps the AHL has a slight edge because it has more NHL ready talent(AHL all-stars beat the SHL's best team, Färjestad BK, 7-2. I know it was the All-Star team but still). Hagg will probably get top 4 playing time, including PK and PP time.

Hopefully they are studying the CBA with a fine-tooth comb and don't wind up somehow losing Haag's rights or something.

Dude, really? The tweet was his standard, poorly worded, misleading ********. Do you really think Carchidi has seen enough of Morin or Hagg to actually have an opinion? He was clearly just stirring up **** and making terrible assumptions.

I would honestly be shocked if Carchidi has watched either play a single game this year.

Poorly worded? It just said Haag was progressing quicker than Morin. What is poorly worded about that? As far as seeing Morin or Haag, he's probably seen as much as any of you to state the opposite (or whatever it is you guys are complaining about with the tweet). Or perhaps he just thinks that because he signed the ELC and will report to ADK, that he has progressed quicker. You may not agree with that, but that doesn't mean he's a hack for stating it.

Like I said, criticize the journalists all you want when the screw up or say something stupid, but it is not some ridiculous thing to say that having Haag play in the AHL this year means he has progressed quicker than Morin (which again, he didn't say, it is just being implied by people on here). But even if his tweet was "Haag being sent to the Phantoms means he has progressed more than Morin," that still wouldn't be unreasonable. While it may not be 100% true, it doesn't make it outlandish. He'll be playing professionally in NA less than a year after his draft. It is completely reasonable to say that this means he has progressed further than Morin. Yes, Morin can't play in the AHL right now, but even if he could, there is nothing out there for you to point to that would say Morin would be there or has progressed any quicker than Haag (other than the fact that you believe based on the what you have seen vs. based on what Carchidi has seen). Yes Carchidi is way off base here. Just seems like complaining for the sake of complaining.

That's what I was wondering. I don't remember the last euro to come over on an ATO. Most come over to play in the NHL on an ELC.

Maybe there is some sort of limit considering he's only having to play 12 games.

Here is the tweet...

Sam Carchidi @BroadStBull · 2h ago
Haag has apparently progressed quicker than Morin.

According to who? This is very open-ended. You know what the general Flyers reader will assume after reading this. Morin = bust because the 2nd round pick is already in the AHL and the 1st rounder is in juniors.

First off, it was already known at the draft that Hagg was the more mature player. So how, all of the sudden, has he progressed faster than Morin? Hagg was already ahead.

I don't see how you can even defend this guy. It's clearly misleading. He does this **** all the time.

The guy suggested we trade Couturier and a 1st for Bernier. Now Bernier is a good goalie but what he was actually traded for was far, far less.

http://muckrack.com/BroadStBull/stat...54174162259969

In summary, Carchidi is clueless.
