As special as Couturier is, the difference of Laughton to Couturier can be expected to be smaller than the difference from Weber to pretty much any other defender on the team. As others have said, this team is deep at centre and weak in the blue line.

I sort of went off half cocked and answered no... but I am not so sure now that I think a bit more about it...

A franchise D man is probably the hardest position to fill, and as good as Coots is... he IS replaceable... plus we have kimmo retiring soon.

I guess it sort of depends on how well our prospects do and how quickly they are NHL ready.

I have to say this would give ammunition to any other fan bases criticizing overvaluation of players. If you asked this to non-Flyers fans, it would be 100% saying yes.

Yea, I usually consider myself level headed... but me answering no to this sort of proved that I over-value some of our players as well.

Oops.

This is an easy yes. Seeing that 19 people voted no just shows how crazy this fanbase is about Coots, and that's a good thing.

I just imagined how I would feel as a Preds fan.

It's a no-brainer.

His team has NO forwards. That may affect their playoff performance.

Weber is arguably the best defenceman in the league. This isn't Pronger at 35, he's 28. Can you imagine Giroux setting up that rocket from the point? Not to mention his crease clearing "etiquette" in front of his own net.

I'm a huge Couturier fan but this is an absolute no-brainer.

1-1 yes. This was the easiest you guys ever made it for me to get Shea Weber.

His 26 minutes and all world defense make up for the lost defensive play by Couts until we could fill that hole. Also, there is no way Nashville does it for him alone though..

I would do it but only because of the depth we already have at center position with Lecavalier and Schenn and then Laughton down the road. We have defensive prospects I'm excited about but they're still years away from being close to what Weber is right now.

Adding Weber to this team, even at the expense of Couturier, I think would make us a serious cup contender.

That said, I'm glad it would never happen because I want Couturier to be a Flyer for life.

I'd feel much more comfortable if it would be Pietrangelo instead of Weber but I guess "life is not a picnic".

For the people voting No....

We're not getting a stud D-Man any time soon. It's not in the cards.

However, Laughton is someone who projects like a Couturier. We have another one of him coming up.

I love, love, love, love, love Couturier and want him to go nowhere...

But it's just not even a choice. Easy yes. You legitimately contend with Weber.

I am mystified that 1/4 of you said no. I've defended Couturier as much as anyone on this board, but this is an easy yes.

Why not enjoy the ride and hang in there with the lads we have ? They are playing AWESOME hockey folks !

Value wise it's an easy YES.

But on the other hand Couts fits a major need perfectly. When they want to win a cup they will need a dominant shutdown center just as much as a #1D, and Couts is already on the verge of becoming that center.

Revisit the beginning of this season, and ask yourself if that happens with Weber playing for this squad.

Something similar happened when we had Pronger in 09-10, so sure, it still happens.
