That's the interview of a captain.

Very humble and at the same time he doesn't give you all those generic athlete interview answers. He's an intelligent young man, down to earth, modest and yet a hard working and ambitious warrior. Great captain.

That was such great hockey IQ right there. His shot is killer there, everyone knows it and plans for it (and often fail to stop it anyway), and he slips one cross-ice for an open net chance for another adept scorer. Brilliant.

That kind of slap pass is going to make him harder to defend if Flip or Kucherov or whoever is over on that half wall can actually make you pay as well. Still, that cross ice pass can't be allowed from a PK unit. You can see why it was though, the F on Stamkos basically sold completely out trying to get to the shot lane lol.

That is definitely one way to keep them honest!

Yeah, but like you said in the next sentence, if they cover the passing lane then Stamkos has a wide open shot. Pick your poison.

That's when the forward not facing Stamkos has to slide a bit higher to take that cross ice pass away and force it back out to the "Center-Point". It certainly is a pick your poison proposition, it's not indefensible but it definitely is much harder to defend if you know Stamkos can pin-point passes like that on the one time.

His playmaking is underrated only because he hasn't had to use it in his career. He's typically been the finisher because it's what he does best. He can be a fantastic passer as well. Just another facet of his game he can grow. Still can't wait to see him become what he was becoming in the start of the year. That Stamkos is arguably the best player in the world.

Since his return Stammer has 9 goals (3 GWG) and 4 assists for 13 points in 12 games.

He's starting to take over again. He had a slow start, which is understandable, but he's definitely getting back to the player we saw at the beginning of the year.

Yeah, all those 12 points came in his last 9 games (as he went scoreless in the first 3). The boss is back.

Stamkos and Tavares are my favorite players. Probably because they're from the teams I follow the most.

I don't see him at that level yet. To me, he's playing like he has before this year. He'll be invisible at times and then just appear on the scoring sheet.

Agree with this assessment. Purcell is a cancer for that line. There is no puck possession on it and a decided unwillingness to go get it. Brown changed that with a handful of forechecks. Stamkos looks nothing like he did just prior to 11/11.

Yeah, he doesn't have his complete game back yet. Offensively though, we're starting to see flashes of his those first 17 games again. He's starting to free wheel with the puck into the offensive zone and beat defenders wide a little more often. He hasn't yet gotten to the point where he's creating his own scoring chances several times per night, but you can see it coming.

He's acknowledged he's still playing with some pain though (maybe that's changed?). So I won't start to worry about his two-way dedication coming back unless it doesn't show up next season.

When we signed Stamkos for 5 years what was the reason for not locking him up (like) forever?

I'm thinking we could have given him 10 million a year for 10 years and be way ahead right now.

Or was Stamkos looking a little towards Toronto and didn't want to commit to the Lightning for that long.

Or was Stevie not sold on Stamkos?

I said right away that I would have given him a 10 or how many years you could have given instead of just 5.

Yzerman doesn't like giving out long contracts. Stamkos isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He will be here until at least his mid 30s

No, we could easily *knock on wood* end up in another Vinny situation, I like what Yzerman has done so far, no contracts above 5 years.

I don't think he's sold on Stamkos. Heard he prefers Thompson as our 1C and will be shopping him this season.
