2014 NCAA "Frozen Four": GOSTIBEHERE named Most Outstanding Player [Union 7, Minne 4]

We can discuss the tournament as the events unfold. We will also create a vBookie event for anyone interested in picking an overall champion.

Three of last year's Frozen Four participants are among the 16 teams in this year's NCAA men's hockey tournament.

Quinnipiac, St. Cloud State and UMass Lowell all earned berths to play for another shot at the national title in Philadelphia. The bracket was released Sunday afternoon on ESPNU.

Minnesota, Boston College, Union and Wisconsin -- in that order -- are the No. 1 seeds in this year's tournament.

The road to Philly will seemingly go through the Land of 10,000 Lakes, as the Golden Gophers will get to open the tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., against Robert Morris.

Union and Wisconsin earned two of the tournament's automatic bids by winning their conference tournaments. The other automatic qualifiers were UMass Lowell, Robert Morris, Minnesota State and Denver, with each winning its respective league tournament as well.

Pretty excited for things to kick off. Thankfully I have a half day Friday and can catch the Union game. I think Buccigross and Melrose are doing the game. I am prepared for another Gostisbehere-slobfest . The bright side, if Union doesn't advance, we may get to see Gostisbehere before the season is out.

What are tickets looking like for the Frozen Four? Didn't someone mention the package for the 3 games being pretty pricey or am I making things up?

If anyone is interested, we now have a vBookie event to pick the national champion. The odds are created in-house. Based on past years, there isn't much information provided through sources for wagering. The decision to attach odds was to separate the teams into groups of four, with Minnesota the exception as the favorite.

I'm going to the final and I'm pretty excited. Hopefully I get to see Ghost. Are there any other Flyers prospects in the field of 16? I know Cornell didn't make it so we won't see Willcox.

Wow, I'm pretty shocked how much these tickets are. The final is on my birthday so I was hoping to go, but I'm not paying $125+ to go watch the game.

Wait it out. Tickets will become available once Minnesota and Wisconsin get eliminated.

Seriously though, last year's field meant tickets were going for less than $50/night secondhand once it was decided.

Yeah I was looking forward to going to at least the semis. I figured the tickets would be no more than $50 each. $100+? Forget about it

I can go to the Flyers game the next day for half the price. Screw that. The championship game would be cool, but I have no allegiance to any team in the tournament so I'm not shelling out that much dough to see a game don't really care about the outcome.

125 is for the 3 games isn't it?
that is still a lot.

I think I paid around 60 for the regionals in Manchester the last time I went.

These are my picks, a little worried about my biases:

Last year I correctly predicted Yale would make it to the finals.

To all you guys that can get your hands on tickets, I'd highly recommend going to the Frozen Four. I was at the 2009 championship in DC when BU came from behind to beat Miami in OT, and that remains the greatest sporting event I've ever been to. Will be tough to top that game, but it's really a phenomenal atmosphere and extremely exciting hockey.

Hopefully UMass Lowell gets knocked out quickly so we can sign Folin soon.

Same. Especially since I was a senior at BU. My bank account stood at $3.08 after that trip. Totally worth it.

Ghost playing on ESPN2 right now. Scramble in front of his own net with his goalie out of position and he went and literally played goalie, made at least three saves.

Ghost hurting after blocking a shot. Got him in on his left hand/wrist. Melrose said he takes the whole shot blocking thing too seriously.

Edit: Pretty sure he didn't even miss a shift

Gaudreau with 2 goals 10 minutes into the game. Too bad he won't play in the NHL.

Hattrick halfway through the game.

BC is toying with Denver.

Kimmo must have given him the magic touch or something.

Also, I can't stand Melrose.
