man that is a name I forgot about. I could be wrong, but didn't he have a real good preseason that got everyone excited, and then just faded out once the season started?

he scored 10 goals in 40 games In 96-97 but I guess that was not good enough for a rookie. he scores 2 goals in 10 games in 97-98. He was only 20 when he played in 96. Now he is 31. I wonder why he did not play in the NHL after the Rangers.

Goneau was a second round pick of the Bruins and then a Rangers pick two years later.

In juniors he was a kid with some sandpaper to his game and offense. Not overly big and not a fighter, but not one to back down either.

He had a great camp and had a very solid start to the season but supposedly he was an arrogant little ***** and he soon found himself demoted.

He never really regained his touch after that and most reports had it that he never really wanted it bad enough.

Either way he joins a long list of shooting young stars on this team.

The one guy out of all these past busts I wish that we handled differently was Dube. We told the kid to go and put on weight and then basically abandoned him as a prospect for some reason. Never understood the decision on him.

His nickname was Ga"nose", for his rather large beek. Like Benoit Hogue some fans would say that their noses had a tendency to reach past the puck thus taking them offsides a lot...

I thought he scored his 10 goals pretty quickly. Looked like a 40 goal scorer.

According to this link he scored all 10 of his goals in October:

Damn now this is a blast from the past...the Rangers had so many of these kind of players...remember Vladimir Vorobiev? I think that was his name, the guy who filled in for Kovalev when he get hurt...it must have been like 1996 or something.

Guys please someone tell the truth here. Messier hated the kid. He came up and played some great hockey but he was like 19-20 years old and got caught up in NYC. He was inviting people into the locker room and then had woman at practice and in locker room and Mark went nuts. Had the Messier course put on him and he was finished

I remember him like yesterday. He scored goals in his first 5 nhl games in a row, IIRC. Looked like the real thing. Then he just disappeared.

And that's the story of the Rangers over the last 10 years.

I haven't been posting on the board for a while, cause I didn't have a chance to watch any meaningful amount of games lately. But then I saw Goneau. Yes, at some point in October he was the leading goal scorer for the Rangers. Goneau-Nemchinov-Flatley line was rocking. Christian Dube made the team in October as well, to center Darren and somebody else, don't quite remember.

klingsor...

he did score the goals pretty quickly. He came up with a splash and got decent ice time. The Rangers weren't doing well and his ice time suffered, as did his production (sounds real familiar). This was in the Campbell era. Then he just never amounted to much. Oh well...

Goneau played for my local team in Fife (Scotland) a couple of years back, and he was a cut above most guys in that league. Not the greatest standard of hockey, but it wasn't bad. He was damn good...floated a little bit, but when he was on he scored for fun. Fast as hell, too.

Yeah, forgot that he was part of the Adolf Messier's advance on ruling the hockey world of New York.

Actually to tell the truth the one he really pissed off was Gretzky and he didn't help his cause by acting like a jackass down in Binghamton either. To kicker was that while not really maturing as a person his production steadily declined which is why he is now a UHL player.

Conspiracy theories aside, there was a reason the kid never had interest from another team an despite the Messier curse he would still be re-called by the Rangers two more seasons including after Messier left.
