lol. In short he plays defense the way I think it should be played. He checks well, he is good at taking fowards out of the play. He plays a positional game, and other than the recent issues with playing him with Rachunek, he can be counted on to make the big defensive play at key times, and of course there's the veteran leadership he brings. I'm not going to say there hasn't been times where he hasn't messed up, but he's easily one of the best defensman we have.

Well, another thread suggested the Rangers were interested in Rob Blake.

Hasn't Ward been dealing with a foot problem this season?

So i'm
Pock is sort of like an everyday player. So if Ward goes in a trade, Pock stepping in could be construed as keeping the lineup the same? Just guessing.

ward has a broken toe (http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/hockey/rangers/blog/) and a a bad wrist from the fight, which he got stitches from. he has been the teams weakest d-man on the last few games, i tend to believe its because hes playing hurt and hes no longer playin with tyutin but with rachunek. he could have been pulled because he was dealt, or he could have been told to take a rest hes gonna get the nite off to rest his injuries and get his game back?

we will see, i tend to believe he won't be traded, but that rachunek, a younger and cheaper d-man would be traded

I'd like to see him traded for the two obvious reasons - his subpar play for most of the season, and to free up space for Girardi, Pock, Baranka, Staal, etc.

Girardi and Pock have certainly proven that they can hang with the big boys, and hopefully Staal isn't far off either.

4.25 for Nortstrom seems too much. Sopel IMO is a smaller version of Poti. Rather not go there.

Wouldn't mind if Ward was traded. He's sucked lately

Don't want Norstrom or Sopel though.

id rather trade Rachunek before Ward. At least Ward hits and plays through injuries.

i loved when we signed ward, and felt he played good in the beginning of the year. however, he has been on a noticeable decline; theres been many instances where him being slightly out of position led to a goal.

Sam just chimed in on the Ward issue in his blog, "I can tell you this is not the first time I had heard about the Jagr-Ward yelling match in Tampa Bay. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ward is moved, and to be honest, I think the Rangers would be happy to part with a player whose game has slipped significantly over the past few months."

Shouting at Jagr equals a ticket out of town. And, I agree with Sam, he's been horrible. If he's too injured to play, he should sit.

And, the last injury report I read on him did not say he had an injured head. So how to explain his awful decisions on ice?

just to add fuel to the fire, the Kings board is talking about an article on TSN's french affiliate that states that Blake just lifted his no trade clause.

I never heard that one before. If that's was the case good, Jagr could do with a whole lot more yelling at IMO.

More like: no thanks Melrose.

He'd be a good piece if we were in a better position, but a 35 year-old Mattias Norstrom is not something that will sooth me to sleep at night.

It’s true Ward was off the ice for the latter part of the skate. Renney said he was taken off for some shoulder treatment

but Renney didn't say that he wasn't positive that Ward wouldn't be traded, as you kind of made it sound like (unintentionally probably).

I wouldn't mind all that much if Ward were moved. He's got alot of experience and provides leadership, but his play on the ice has not been all that great. That being said, I hardly see Sopel as a step in the right direction. Norstrom, I guess would be something we don't really have in a true defensive dman, but he's on the wrong side of 30 and I don't know what his contract is like. Ward is 2.75 next year, and Malik and Roszival are 2.5 and 2.3 respectively. Throw Kaspar getting 3.3 to play in HFD and that's alot of money tied up in defense to not have a guy who's even a bonafide #2 guy. I like Ward, but he's not irreplaceable. If a contender like San Jose wants him, I don't think it affects future UFA's opinions of us negatively. OTOH, if we send him to the boneyard in L.A. we may have a problem attracting guys in the future.
