Come on, he had to,slow a bit. Doesn't help that his line mates have been a complete dumpster fire and the second line is garbage.

His inability to get the right match-ups and shake up the lines when some kind of spark is needed is alarming to me. Also the decision to continually bench Gus after games where he's looked like one of the top 2 dmen on the team. He seems like the kind of coach that can easily be out-coached in a 7 game series.
Yeah. He needs to start putting different line combos together. These guys need a spark. It seems like all these tough games are starting to wear on the flyers a bit.

Schenn and Simmonds have been alarmingly awful. They need some new lines.

Lol, pretty entertaining GDT to read. Some of you guys seriously need to step back from the ledge.

We just tied the two best teams in the NHL, and dropped one to a team much more desperate than us. Horrendously ugly game, but Columbus played a phenomenal game, and we still put up 36 shots on goal.

It's easy to watch a game where nothing goes right and shout, "EFFORT DAMN IT!", but effort is not the issue. The Flyers were just stifled all night long by Bob and the Jackets. It happens. They are playing for their lives, and we're not (yet). You know how teams push when they're down by a goal late in the third? Yeah, well that's what happens to bubble teams down the stretch. Desperate hockey is a powerful thing.

Frustrating, but you cannot win them all, the NHL is an evenly balanced, tough league to play in. Look at Boston tonight.
You take your level headed comments and just get..... GET!

It's alarming that Giroux can't do it all by himself every night for 82 games?

The problem is the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines can't score at even strength to save their lives and right now Hartnell and Voracek are playing like retards. Then the PP looks like complete trash because Voracek, Hartnell, Timonen, and Streit can't pass to save their lives and the 2nd unit is always useless.

It's not the Flyers way to not go into the playoffs backwards with no momentum

These two and Jake and. Harts have been very bad, G is on his own.

Couts seems to have down games too when he doesn't have an opposing star to go against

This is a team that thrives on second chance goals. They didn't get many tonight and this is what happens. They not a club built on one chance shooters. A lot of it has really been bad bounces/luck. They've generated nearly 80 shots the last two games.

Need offense from the third line too. Matt read has been pretty silent as of late and for whatever reason, Raffl seems more noticeable on the fourth line. It's like he got comfortable once he was moved up

The 2nd unit is downright awful. I would love to see some stat that shows the disparity of goals between the 1st and 2nd unit.

I have a task for you Appleyard.

Pretty much, the offense has gone stale in these last couple of games. They'll work it out before going into the playoffs, no need for overreactions.

If the Flyers go 1-4-1 through the last 6 they end on 90.

To get past the flyers if they get to 90 the non playoff teams need:

Toronto: 5-0-0 (4-0-0 after tonight most likely)
Washington: 5-1-0
New Jersey: 5-0-1 (possibly 5-1-0 with ROW, but unlikely.)

If the Flyers go 1-5-0 for 89 points:

Toronto: 4-1-0 (3-1-0 after tonight)
Washington: 4-1-1
New Jersey: 5-1-0 (possibly 4-0-1 but unlikely.)

That is why they are virtually guaranteed a spot.

That is also not taking into account that Columbus would have to gain 3 points on them in that time and Detroit go past as well.

I feel Niitty could have been a good starter in this league, if not for all those injuries he had.

We probably gave up on Bob too easily. Though he probably needed a different in team in front of him to find his success. He wouldn't be a Vezina winner on this team IMO. I think the overall swap from him to Mason is a lateral move, and both teams benefited because both players needed a fresh start. A lot of goalies in this league would struggle or look average on this team.

Hasn't scored in 14 games and 0pts in last 5 games. Even with him playing a defensive role, him and read need to figure out some offense

Also, the people who rip on Voracek night after night make me want to kill a kitten. The guy is fine. I do not think there is anyone on the team he could be replaced with that could outperform him right now.

The second and third lines could use a shakeup, though.

And I hope Laughton gets playoff time. Could use an energetic rookie with something to prove getting easy minutes on the fourth line. Would be a pretty damn big boost, imo.

the power play has looked pathetic the last few games, we can't even get into the zone, if this comes down to the wire i may have a heart attack, i always said bob should not have been dealt that since his first game he was destined for greatness

Was just about to say. Bob wouldn't have won a Vezina on this team. Also keep in mind his Vezina was during the shortened season.
