I like Mara as he was a rather physical dman in Phoenix...in Boston I think he just had too many guys in front of him last year...Chara,Stuart, etc. I think that the deal is fine...

The problem is why we made the deal. You do not trade a guy just because he was in an argument with another player!
What kind of message are you sending to the rest of the players? That if you are not Jagr but just a 3rd line or 3rd pair guy, and u get into an argument with Jagr, you will be traded????

If Rangers traded Malik for Ovechkin, some on here would say it's a joke. Jeeez stop whining already! Even before you know who the player is, whine whine whine.

Ward on the phone with TSN...

Q:did you want to/think that you were going to be dealt?
A: i was aware of the possibility, didn't want to go.

Q: Jagr argument? you are outspoken guy?
A: i am not a bad apple, things get sensationalized in NY Papers. taken out of proportion..

Confirms its Paul Mara, got the call from Tom Renney during breakfast..

So it is Mara. This guys is more expensive than Ward, weaker defensively, softer, isn't a leader, and has no winning pedigree (and only 5 career playoff games). This is exactly the type of player the Rangers need late in the season as they battle for their playoff lives. Good trade.

Although he should be better on the power play than Rozsival.

He says that he has no idea what went wrong with NY.. Happy with a fresh start with Boston. He didn't expect to be dealt. He says argument with Jagr was overblown. He says it was done out of frustration. Paul Mara is official

Well a fractured locker room is the end and we have the future to think about as well.

Sounds like Ward might have been out of line. Jagr as captain has a positive and a negetive side.

He's not the inyour face lets have it out kind of guy. But he has a lot more influence in that room than people give him credit for. Unfortunately he's having a tough time personally and I think he finds it a challenge to put that aside. He wants to lead by example...

well an example was made today....what left?

Mr Jagr lead us to victory

Didn't want to talk about NYR at all, just he's happy to have a fresh start with familiar faces(Dave Lewis).

TSN talking about the Ducks, say Marek Malik would be a good pickup. ;o)

Mara is signed for next season-$3 million

Only $250,000 more than Ward

Mara will be a group III in 2008

Hey, at least Mara is -104 for his career.

I'll say it again

-104!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, this guy was a huge draft bust, and has been passed around the NHL. He's a garbage player. Gee, great trade, Slats!!

I'm gonna be sick..

Really glad to see Ward gone...Thought his signing was a huge mistake in the off-season...Though a warrior who hit, hos defensive zone play and his speed was often horrible....Mara is a very good return with alot of offensive upside...Gotta admit, Mara has alos struggles this year, but really liked him his two previous years in PHX...

And then there's the locker room issues, if true...

Good trade by Sather, if you ask me. Makes it three god ones in a row..too bad this past off-season;s moves sucked...

FROM TSN.ca

Scouting Report
Assets Has the size teams look for in a blueliner and skates very well for a big man. Displays the mentality of a power-play quarterback and likes to lead the rush.
Flaws Needs more polish in the defensive zone and more overall experience in big-game situations. Must also use a more physical approach against talented forwards.
Career potential: Top four defenseman.
