As much as I loved him back when he was on a line with Gomez and Gionta, I don't think I ever held out hope that he would become as good as he has. Playing with Cole really helped him develop a new style, and in spite of the fact the bulk of his goals seem to come on quick shots, he is still trying new things all the time. He just keeps growing. What a fantastic player we have.

Neither of them were ever irreplaceable key contributors. It was always what they could be instead of what they were.

Stop saying that, Komisarek and Higgins never had a 40 goal season or something even remotely close.

Not only does Max Pac can produce heavily but he also leads by example and a Bill Masterson winner. To me hes slightly ahead of Plekanec.

No I think Pleks will get the C based on his veteran status and very solid play.

Not so sure about that... Even though i had Plecky for the "c" over Gionta.
Max still has some intresting upside potential to his game.
He can become our "War Horse"

The best value player in the NHL. Loved the pick at the time and am elated to see the player he has developed into.

Anyone know what is goal/point pace is since he is playing with a true 1rst liner(Vanek)? It must be ridiculous even if its a small sample size

Edit: Since playing with Vanek, he has 15 points in 11 games, 7 goals

Well over PPG if I'm not mistaken.

I've never been a fan of "best player = captain" mentality.
The captain needs to do more than just rack up goals and points, and I'm not sure if Max is that guy - yet.

Yep, either him or Markov should get the C next year. But Pac, might be next in line in 2-3 years.

Agree. I prefer Pac to do what he does best and that is put puck in net. Someone else can take all the drama that comes with being a Habs captain.

When's the last time we had a player finish top 5 in the league for goals scored?

if vanek re-signs here, I think we will have 2, if not 3, ppg players next year..

Of course Patches will be captain. He's an American just like Gionta.

Pacioretty's progression shows how unpredictable the development of prospects can be. Never in a million years would I have expected Pacioretty to become a 40 goal scorer back in 2010. It's weird to have one of the best scorers in the league on our team.

I saw 30 goal scoring potential in him because he was present at least every other game, very efficient, and had good aim. I have found that 20 goal scorers are boring to follow during because they have so many dead periods during the season while 30+ goal scorers don't really have those dead periods. Never felt Pacioretty had those dead periods. He was too consistent even then and the numbers bore that out(half a goal a game pace).

Many people did see the potential.
Max is experiencing the snowball effect.
His defensive play and willingness to move his feet are creating a ton of scoring opps for him.
Hell he'd have 50 if he could score more consistently on his breakaways and penalty shots
It seems he has put two and two together and is riding that wave.

Back then he would get destroyed by a big hit every two game and hadn't really found his game yet as a sniper. I used to think that he would be a 20-20 guy and that his passing would be his bread and butter, I was dead wrong on that

I could bump a few threads to show I wasn't the only one expecting him to be a 3rd line forward pre-2011 Chara incident

Ouch, can you imagine Pacioretty on the Sharks? All they need is another big, fast guy who can score at will. That trade may have cost them a real shot at the Stanley Cup.

But of course it's easy to be right after the fact!

Well, if you meant the two seasons prior to the one Chara ran him into the stanchion, then sure, being down on him was expected.

But he was already hot during the 2010-2011 season and never really cooled down. By the time Chara took him out, I was sold that we lost someone really good...
