DO the Ducks stand a chance anymore

I was wondering if you guys think the ducks have any chance at winning the stanley cup anymore. I think they dont because they did nothing at the trade deadline and everyother team above or below them got better. I think its funny that I read in the times that the ducks were very interested in Nordstom but Burke said the kings didnt intend to deal with them.

Unfortunately, I think they are as dangerous as any team. In the playoffs, one of Pronger & Neidermayer will be on the ice at ALL times (each will get 30 minutes per game). Giguere is a proven playoff stud. They have tons of grit. I hate saying this but they are going to be very tough. Don't think too much of their record of late. It's a long season and they've playing out the regular season string for a while now.

I don't think they have as good a chance as many, but they're still in the upper echelon of Cup contenders.

Their play for the last little while more than their deadline inactivity is what has lessened my expectations for them.

Despite the moves made by their competition, they're still a very good team, albeit one that I don't think will win it all this year.

I still think they are the favorites from the west. Health being the only issue imo...

They didn't do anything because they weren't in dire need of anything. With those forwards, that D and, yuck, consistent goaltending from Giguere, they look great...

Off topic a bit, but if Giguere is in top form, I put them as a favorite to make the Cup finals...and lose in game 7 to New Jersey again...

Any team that gets in the playoffs has a chance.

Actually, they didn't do anything because their attempts to get Jason Blake were shot down by the NHL and their pesky rules about no trades after the deadline.

This thread is just begging for trolling & trouble. Of course Anaheim stands a chance - ALL teams that make the post season stand a chance.

they arent my favorites to win the cup. How are they going to win the cup when they have a heck of a time beating the 29th placed team

Trading Shane O'Brien didn't help.

I almost get the feeling there was another deal coming down that faltered (i.e. for another D-Man) just AFTER the O'Brien trade, leaving Anaheim thinner on defense than expected.

The loss of depth on D makes the Ducks a bit more vulnerable.

O'Brien is no star, but he's BIG, mobile, tough, and even has a bit of offense in his game--He will be an NHL fixture for a decade or more.

I wish we had traded Norstrom/Pushkarev for HIM instead of the deal we made.

But picks are nice.

Sigh.

I think Anaheim has a shot at the Cup. I don't, however, think that all teams that make it have a chance. You can talk about the Cinderella stories and stuff...but, in the end, it's always the team with 100+ points that dominated that regular season that ends up winning the big prize.

i say no, because they got mainly screwed in all the deals, so i think they will not go far in the playoffs.

Everyone knows that postseason success is determined at the trade deadline.

Hot goalie will carry a team. Giguere has the ability to be that guy... as do about 8 or 9 others... time will tell. I wouldn't bet against the Ducks, but there's a lot of teams they will have to go through to get there.

Oh, so Buffalo, New Jersey, Ottawa might as well just quit now too because they got almost nothing at the deadline too, right?

Look back and often rentals make almost no difference in the long run. Occasionally they help, but very, very rarely will it make a key difference between winning the cup and not winning it. It is much too late to go over the stats, but i cannot recall to many teams that had rentals playing key roles to Stanley Cup victories. Even last year Weight did not play in most of the Final, and Recchi was not a big factor. I do not believe ANA will make it past the 2nd round, but for other reasons than not getting any rentals.

well...quite obvious that they will have a chance...might be better if Norstrom wins the Stanley Cup, though...
