Have been and/ or preferred 4 in a number of sports, which translates into a 44 for me on the ice, because I don't want anyone that plays dirty, cheap shots or tries to cheap shot me forgetting my number after they come off second best.

Obviously I'd never go 99, 88, 77 or 66 because you'd have to be pretty good (IMHO) to wear those or look a bit silly, like wearing 23 on your basketball singlet if you're not very good.

I've always and only worn 7 for hockey -- on absolutely every team, every level, ice or inline. But I finally find myself on a team on which I can't get my number, so now I have 16: For my brother (who wears 16), Konstantinov, and as an afterthought Brett Hull (coincidentally, all four of us are/were right-handed shots). Also because 1+6=7, because I didn't like the look of 17, (mod edit) and 19 (for Stevie Y) wasn't available either.
