Shayne Gostisbehere (signed ELC, terms in OP; debuted with Phantoms Apr. 19)

I'm a long time lurker, took me years to even get an account, and I don't post much at all but I live in upstate NY, not all that far from Schenectady. I have a few friends that went to Union and one that's involved in the athletic department. He traveled with the team during the tournament and just sent me a quick message letting me know that the press release is already written and tonight will be Ghost's last game with Union.

I know I'm not a legitimate source, so I'm not upset if this gets locked or anything. I just felt like passing the information along to fellow Flyers fans.

2014 National Champion to report to Adirondack Phantoms

Tuesday, 04.15.2014 / 12:59 PM / News

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed 2012 Draft Pick, defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to an entry-level contract, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. He will report to the club's AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, for the remainder of the season.

Gostisbehere was selected in the third round (78th overall) by the Flyers in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Gostisbehere is fresh off winning the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament with Union College, held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia this past weekend. He led Union with a goal and two assists to go along with a plus-minus rating of +7 in the Championship game, a 7-4 win over Minnesota.

Over the course of three years at Union, Gostisbehere recorded 22 goals and 60 assists for 82 points in 118 games.

Details on Gostisbehere contract: $925k (entry-level max) for 3 years, plus performance bonus max of $212,500 (14-15), $637,500 (15-17).

Wow that would be awesome. Hopefully it's true.

He's my favorite prospect and I think he can have an impact at the NHL level with his skating, shooting and passing ability.

Very excited.

His puck moving and skating will be a beautiful sight on our back end that is slow at most times this year. I think Ghost might get a game or two in when the Flyers make the playoffs. I don't know for who or on what pairing but he has NHL+ skating ability. Makes me extremely giddy about him. Hopefully he was on the reserve list and can be part of the black aces.

If he is on the reserve list and joins the black aces at the end of the year he could become our Torey Krug like Boston had last year. I am not counting on it but I am not saying it isn't a possibility. One injury could change the whole back end and we have been very healthy all year back there.

*Knocks on wood*

To the question below for some reason I want to say 8 but maybe it's uncapped. There is no cap going into the playoffs so they could bring as many as they want up maybe? Not too sure.

How many players can you have on that list? If it's a decent amount it would've been smart of Homer to put him on there just in case and risk it instead of wasting the spot on one of the semi-useless players from ADK.

That's interesting and hopefully it's true. I'm excited to see what he's capable of doing in the AHL/NHL.

Hopefully it's true, thanks for sharing.

I'm not sure he's NHL ready but I don't think it would take him even a full season with the Phantoms to be ready. I'm excited to see what he can do at the pro level.

Rosters are unlimited after the trade deadline, and when the playoffs start there is no cap.

Krug, who I think is a good comparison, spent a year in the AHL before the Bruins called him up for the playoffs last year. I'd imagine they go the same route with Ghost.

Although I'd really love to see how he looks in the NHL.

All of a sudden the Flyers have legit D prospects! Multiple... and with pretty complementary skillsets.

Ghost will have a bright future on the Flyers! But again no need to rush him. Alt and Hägg appear to be closer and are more physically prepared to jump right in.

Thank you.

He has the tools to play in the NHL now IMO. The only drawback is his size. Will that limit him? I don't think it will.

krug is nowhere the defensive player Ghost is. Krug however is probably better on offense which is saying something.

He might be a better playmaker at this point, but I think Gostisbehere's tools are better. Bigger frame with room to fill out. His skating and shot are only going to get better.
