Fransson

A guy/gal from Sweden (Ola) gave this insight on Fransson.

"He is a amazing skater.

He broke into the SEL as a 18 y/o during the lockout year, and on some nights flat out dominated games, just amazing. I mean on some nights D's like Chara, Souray, Nik Wallin and Staios were on the ice, but a 18 y/o Johan Fransson were by far the best D in the game, taking the puck up ice on a regular basis, breaking up plays defensivly, hitting, shooting everything. And remember this is after the huge injury problems he had as a 16-17 y/o. Besides beeing a tremendous skater, he is also 6'1.5, 190 lbs, got a decent physical side, a pretty good vision and a good shot. A former national team coach said that Fransson were by far the best D he had seen comming out of Sweden since Lidström.

Anyway, the season after that he were great in preseason, scoring a ton of goals. When the regular season started he struggled some, you know typical soapmore problems. He is a young puckmoving D, thoose are bound to make some misstakes. The coaches on his team were under allot of pressure though, and while they gave him a few chances, he wounded up beeing the odd man out in the PO's. It were also very obvious that he were told to cut down on his offensive rushes. He looked pretty miserable at the end of the year.

This year, he have been horrible. Practically now offense, you don't see his skating at all, he makes a ton of misstakes, a ton of bad decisions ect. You can also see it in his face expression, the kid just looks like a complete mess. I've seen kids struggle before, but nobody even close to as bad as Fransson are struggling. I defenitly sense that there are problems off ice, just guessing, but its hard to think of something else that can deveaste a kid this much. Not drugs or something like that, family or something maybe.

For a while there he looked like the steal of the draft, defenitly on par with Detroit picking Zetterberg in the 3rd.

Now, his stride is really special, I am talking Paul Coffey quality. But he is a huge project."

Seems to me like it's a situation of trading one highly talented but not-quite-putting-it-all-together prospect for another (Pushkarev & Fransson).

Let's hope we can get Fransson to North America for the proverbial change of scenery come fall.

I thought it best to guage where Fransson is in terms of play was to pose a question on the HF Swedish board...not a pretty picture, in terms of Johan's recent play.

It seems that a concussion from 2004 set him back and he became a father at 20. Obviously, these are major things that can affect a players performance, especially a kid...one trying to make the jump from juniors to the Swedish Elite League, going through ordeals like that.

Hopefully, the Kings get him over here and help him start anew in the AHL. I think it would be worthwhile to put some development effort into this kid. He has the tools and apparently incredible skating ability.

The best move would be for them to get him over him and into the rookie camp and training camp. At that point even fans on here and lgk are actually smart enough to see if a guy is any good or not before we go on statements based on reviews.

Yes, it's true... the rookie camp and training camp definitely gave fans and LGK idiots the chance to annoint Kevin Dallman as a potential Norris Trophy winner

No, they need to sign him and bring him to LA ASAP so Modry can show him the proper technique for keeping the puck inside the blue line.

Modry can also teach him how to shoot the puck at the shin guards of the opposing team.

That's something that you can either do or can't...there's no teaching that.

That sent up a red flag when I read it. That's got to hurt efforts to bring him to NA. If he has a baby to be with, he'll probably be more inclined to continue playing in Sweden.

Don't know what the circumstances are, it could be just the opposite. I'd like to think they researched this some before choosing him
