He's under contract for 3 more years...any interest for our overpaid goalie?

I thought of this not sure either team would be for it but Carolina wants to cut salary and Winnipeg wants a goalie and get rid of Pavs contract so how about Ward for Pavelec?

Why would Colorado trade a goalie whom they´ve just signed to a multi-year contract, knowing that they need to work very hard with him in the offseason, for a cap-dump?

Nope. No interest in a worse contract. Would have interest in Ward on a 1 year deal if the Canes buy him out.

$$$ owed to Pavelec after the conclusion of the 13-14 season --> $12.75 mil over 3 seasons (http://www.capgeek.com/player/365)
$$$ owed to Ward after the conclusion of the 13-14 season --> $13.5 mil over 2 seasons (http://www.capgeek.com/player/544)

While Pavelec has a significantly lower cap hit, he only carries a marginally smaller financial obligation in comparison to Ward. Carolina's primary concern is the budget and not the cap, more often than not. If that's the best the Canes could do, I'd prefer that they just hold onto Ward and ride out the rest of his contract. Khudobin - Ward should be a good duo moving forward.

If you take Gleason as well, it's a deal.

I get your argument that over the life of the contract the money is similar but over the coarse of the next 2 seasons it is roughly 2.5M less(in actual cash), the rest gets deferred to another season. If Carolina trades Ward, chances are they will have to find a backup goalie who will make about 2-2.5M anyways so paying Pavs 3.9M isn't that big of a stretch. Their is also the possibility Pavelec might find his game in Carolina making the trade look good for the Canes.

It's basically a calculated risk for both teams

Why? They could re-sign Peters for less than that if they make a move on Ward.

That's not the going rate for a backup goalie, Khudobin signed for $2.25.

Let's be honest here: No team wants or needs Pavelec.

I would take him on the Pens @2M as a reclamation project.

Craig Adams + 5th
