Sad day. I am now willing to bet this team is a non-playoff team next season.

Despite my serious skepticism regarding his decision making the past few seasons, Trotz has been nothing but a class act. His family has been extremely giving to this community. He is a great person and I wish him the absolute best in whatever follows for him.

Pretty impressive that one man could coach the same franchise for 16 years since its inception into the league.

Who wants to bet that Trotz has a job before the Preds have a new coach?

Trotz is nothing but class, you guys were my second team because of him (and honk tonk row!). Good luck to him wherever he ends up, would love to see him in Columbus! Good luck to the Preds and whomever they pick!

A very sad day, but I think we all knew it was coming. Best of luck to Coach Trotz and his family. He has been nothing but gracious to me and mine--glad to have his signature on an old jersey.

Per the Preds.

Quote:
Nashville, Tenn. – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager announced today that Barry Trotz’s coaching contract will not be extended and that the organization will immediately begin a search to identify a new head coach for the 2014-15 season. Trotz has been offered a position within the organization’s hockey operations department and will consider his options before making a decision on the position.

Good move by the organization. I hope he stays in a position in management. I think he ultimately goes that root over coaching.

Official Press Release from Preds --Preds33 beat me to the posting.

Trotz was a great man and did a spectacular job bringing the team from expansion into the 21st Century. He and his family will be missed greatly, but I think at this point that the change is a good thing! Good luck Mr Trotz in your future endeavors and many thanks for your hard work and dedication to this city, this team, and this franchise as a whole!!

Kind of odd that they didn't list David Poile's name in the first line of the press release. Maybe it is just wishful thinking that he won't be brought back either....

He's been as consistent as one could be, but it's pretty clear that a change is needed. Should be interesting to see how long it takes to find a replacement.

As one of the most vocal proponents for change this year, I can't help but feel a little sadness. The man was a class act and will be missed.

It was just time for some new ideas.

Then a shocking plot twist where David Poile becomes the one-eyed coach. Barry only signs defenseman and Poile waits for the players to call out when they want to make a line change.

Sad day; I still think it's a poor choice. Best of luck Trotz; I think he has done wonderful things for this franchise and is one of the primary reasons we avoided a decade of mediocrity like the Jackets.

Not hard to do since he's been offered a position in the club. Essentially he already has a job.

Good luck, Barry.

Good coach. Competitive but flawed system.

Time to move on for better or worse.

Good luck to you Barry whether it is here or elsewhere.

I'm pretty convinced my two teams switched competence levels during the lockout or something. This isn't a move that gets you a quick rebound, it's a rebuild move. Unless Poile (or his successor, if they're crazy enough to fire him too) manages one of the best coaching hires in a lonnnng time, we're definitely going for three in a row.

Otherwise... well, next year if nobody gets signed such that the kids are continuously thrown to the wolves, MacLean-era Jackets style, then the devolution will be complete.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

My guess is that he's with the Jets before the end of the week.
