Ville Leino

The guy had zero goals this season, so I have got to believe that the Sabres will be using one of their amnesty buyouts on the guy. I can't imagine there would be much interest in the guy at that point. Would anyone be interested in bringing him in on a sub $1 million contract? He can be a 13/14 forward or challenge for a spot in training camp and wallow away in the minors?

I would be in on that. Perhaps it is just nostalgia, but a line with Couturier, Read, and Leino on there would be intriguing to me.

As a 13th forward I say why not, as long as it's a super cheap contract.

Let them battle it out in camp. If Akeson gets the job great. Waive Leino and let him play in the minors (or put him in the pressbox as #13/14 if the competition is close).

With the Phantoms coming to LV, I don't even want to see him stinking it up there!

If he gets bought out he'll probably go the the KHL. Jokerit is moving to the KHL next year. He had his best year with him. I'm sure he could get more money there as well.

I don't remember Leino being particularly good defensively. Much rather see Raffl on that line. If not Raffl then Homer should almost surely be able to find someone else better than Leino.

I don't think he was a liability though. I think that line could spark him for some offense. While there is no Briere on the line, I think Read's speed and craftiness could help Leino find his mojo again. Maybe he and Couturier could find some magic too. Who knows? I'm just spitballing. Like I said, give him a cheapo deal and see what happens. Worst case scenario he winds up in the AHL. Best case scenario he gets his groove back and we have a good player on a cheap deal. Low risk-high reward.

he obviously doesn't look like the same player right now, but it is possible he might just need to play with some better players. it's an interesting proposition anyways... not against it for a sub $1M contract...

No desire at all. This team doesn't need another slow skater. They got the best out of him and I'd rather give the roster spot to a good young player as opposed to a flash in the pan.

It wouldn't hurt to offer him a tryout contract at camp next season, but I'd still rather see Raffl on the 3rd line. Maybe Leino would click with VLC on the fourth line? Who knows. Hard to be very optimistic about a top 6 winger (in theory) who failed to score a single goal over an entire NHL season, even if he was playing for Buffalo.

Leino was actually pretty good defensively. That was a huge part of why that Hartnell-Briere-Leino line worked so greatly. Despite him being really slow he was very good on the backcheck and a wizard in stripping opponents off the puck.

That being said, I don't see Couturier and Leino on the same line. Foot speed would be a major concern. I don't see Leino beating out anyone right now.

WTF happened to him... here I mean. He sucked with Detroit, we got him for free and became pretty good, then we lost him and he started sucking again.

Do not want. He has had a good year and a half in his entire career. There is a reason Detroit traded him and why he hasn't scored a goal all year. He is terrible

No. We caught lightning in a bottle with him the first time. He overachieved with us. Very much doubt he'd be the 50 point player he was here before.

Totally against it. He stinks now. We already have enough forwards, we don't need that gormless hack.

Nope. I also do not want the money first attitude around the team.

He's more valuable as an example than a player. I'd rather sign a dozen other players that brings what he does (which is very little now).

Probably just a great match between him and his linemates, plus the system the team was playing. I don't see how we can recreate that situation now with new players and a new coach so there's probably no way to bring back the magic.
