Jason Blake?

Posted this in the Smyth thread, but It is a completely different subject so...

What do we all think about the Jason Blake situation? He's more than hinted he may not be staying on LI, and he's a UFA this summer. The Islanders have said they will not trade him to a rival, but that doesn't mean he can't walk after his contracts up. Personally I don't like him much, but I can appriciate his level of play right now.

In the meantime, since many rangers fans have cited their favorite moment in the past ten years was Messier choking Blake, how would you feel if your team now was rooting for the guy?

Personally I think Blake will end up signing out west, I dont fore see the Rangers going after him too vigorously. He did however raise his stock by having such a solid scoring season this season.

I'd hate it no more than having Jagr or Lindros on the team to be honest. I didn't/don't like them either. The old Beukeboom vs Lindros matchups were some of my favorite moments.

I really don't care if he's a good player... I don't want to see The Little Red Menace in a Ranger's jersey....

He's going to be way overpriced following his goal output this season. He is one of those invaluable players who is just a pest to play against and a tenacious forechecker. We have a similar guy in Avery who may not reach Blake's numbers but is younger and cheaper, so I hope we re-sign him.

Nutz huh? In reading other users' comments, it sounds like he is not well liked in the dressing room and his declaration to the press that he needed to be re-signed before the deadline or else he was gone, hich he recanted, did not help. According to reports, he was traded at the deadline, but the paper work came in too late. If the Islanders are serious about re-signing Smyth, Blake is not going to get the amount he wants.

My guess is if the Islanders don't give him an offer he likes he would go to the Rangers out of spite(given the right offer). Personally i love Blake but i feel somebody will overpay him and I rather it not be us(us being Islanders). Great player to have at the right price though.

Dream on? Hardly. He doesn't fit what the Rangers need, and if the Rangers do sign a UFA, I want if to be Chris Drury. Well, I thin Ryan Smyth is a possibility of being a target of the Rangers this off-season, (as long as they feel comfortable playing Straka at center between Hossa and Jagr, with Nylander continuing to center Shanny), I don't see Blake on their radar screen. And, like Gomez, I never want to see Blake in a Ranger uniform, just out of principle.

Blake is too old and will be way over priced. There is no way I pay him the kind of money that has been reported in the papers that he is looking for. He's not an elite player. He is a very good role player that has hit his peak. His best offensive years may be behind him.

I believe those idiots lost Straka on waivers for nothing too. He was traded to The Islanders w/ Don Beaupre & Berard for Damian Rhodes & WADE REDDEN!!

less than 2 months later they put him on waivers and the Panthers claimed him...

Blake is a relentless player, but he has no place here.

Avery, Dawes, Prucha, Callahan...

I think we've cornered the market on undersized wingers.

no reason for blake here, with that being said, i wouldnt be suprised to see the rangers offer blake a 1-2 year deal for a pretty high price just to make the isles have to offer more money and to boost his market value, make the isles overpay and hurt their cap

Blake is not going anywhere, the guy has a tremendous respect for wang and teh isles organization nad has said numerous tiems he would not be playing in the nhl today if teh isles had not taken a chance on him. im 90% positive hes stayin w/teh isles, and 100% positive he would not go to teh rangers. if he signs with another team it will be the wild for he is from minnesota.
