The Playoff forum's series thread is about to reach a boiling point before Wednesday. Leafs and Bruins and Sens trolls will be quick to dismiss Montreal, always be on the offensive. Teams that missed the playoffs can't talk smack, and shouldn't. If the Sens claim they beat us last season, ask 'em why they're living in the past. The Leafs talk smack, bring up Phaneuf and Carlyle and Nonis (and... and... and...). Bruins talk smack? Responses can run the gamut: "Embellishment", Makaveli videos, youtube clips of Bostonian fans acting like morons, Thornton diving, videos of the Habs beating the Bruins, Don Cherry, videos of Bobby Orr getting injured, Bill Buckner... whatever you can find.
Tampa fans are relying on their regular season record - the response, I figure, would be to bring up their financial struggles and how we're going to fill their arena because they don't even have 10,000 hockey fans and we have some to spare.
Man, you're a real pro at this. You should start a business.
Credit to Kobe Armstrong for reminding us. Last year was funny and all the banter about Erik Karlsson not being the best, most greatest player of all time actually got to the Sens fans and now they hate us!
Banter 2014: This time it's still not personal
Pro-Habs talking points (repeat these until they're true)
The Habs are the ONLY Canadian team in the playoffs. A true patriot would root for Canada.
Team Canada's *STAR* Player, Carey Price, is a Hab. If you supported Team Canada in the Olympics, you'd support the Habs.
One of the most underrated coaches in the league, Michel Therrien, preaches respect to all his players and gets them to play an attractive, no-frills kinda game.
Great young players like Subban, Gallagher, Eller, Bournival, Beaulieu, Tinordi and Galchenyuk are relied upon for important duties at all times.
Wily vets like Briere, Bourque, Bouillon and Murray bring stability to the lineup with their consistent play.
Deadline acquisitions Weaver and Vanek go to show that we're truly Stanley Cup contenders
Physical players like Parros, Moen, White, Emelin, Murray keep the other team on their toes and honest.
Stars like Desharnais, Pacioretty, Vanek and 40goal man, Brian Gionta, can pretty much score at will. If you want high-octane hockey, you'd support the Habs
Anti-Bolts talking points (these are actually true)
Steven Stamkos couldn't even make it to Team Canada, goes to show how overrated he is.
Their star player and captain, Martin St-Louis, begged to be traded midway through the season. Tampa's a sinking ship.
Does it even snow in Tampa Bay? Do they even have electricity in Tampa Bay? What's a Tampa, even?
Overrated goalies - Ben who? Andres whom? Neither are half as experienced as our backup Peter Budaj.
What kind of name is Teddy Purcell anyway??
Sami Salo's going to have another hilariously inopportune injury.
Ryan Malone. He just likes to swerve while he drives and carries cocaine on his person because he likes to prank the local police!
John Cooper's overrated, he's only good compared to Barry Melrose. Also, he looks like a Llama apparently.
If you're ever caught in a debate, just fall back on the previous points and refuse to concede any points. Always remember the following:
Every hit by the Lightning is dirty and had intent to injure
Every hit by the Habs was clean and old school hockey
The refs are CLEARLY biased against the Habs
Bettman wants Tampa to win
The Habs are obviously playing injured
Stamkos' recovery was dubious, and cause for concern. The league turns a blind eye on steroid abuse.
Every win by the Habs was a dominant win and it wasn't even close
Every win by Tampa (yuck!) was by the skin of their teeth and the Habs woulda won if some of those bounces went our way
HFBoards is against the Habs.
We're the underdogs. We're always the underdogs.
The playoffs may only last a couple of weeks, we have to make the most of it. Happy posting!
Don't use the highlighted one. It can definately get you in trouble. Read the rules and you'll see for yourselves
There are two kind of teams in hockey: the big boys and the filler teams. This series has to be all about a big boy stomping this poor little southern market team on the head and show them their place.
They exist so that teams like ours can play more games and make more money. I have no doubt that our great organisation will ransack their little mickey mouse organisation and that our fans will find their way into their little shack of an arena and make our guys feel right at home.
We'll take the series in 6, and take their baseball team as a throw-in prize for our victory.
It's the law of nature. It's evolution. It's unavoidable. The Lightning is a little train that's bound to fail. Diamonds are forever, and so are the Habs.
Or not. Maybe we get eliminated in 4 with some awful drama happening in the series that causes PK to leave in the offseason. Maybe this series will be representative of out with the old and in with the new.
Maybe the Habs are the new Cubs, and we won't win anything in a century.
But no matter, we'll live a rollercoaster I'm sure.
Like I said in the Out Of Town thread: Lucic has taken Classless Subbans to a new level.
He's like an effeminate Bane.
God I hate the Bruins... gotta respect Jeremy Jacobs owning the league by the balls though, a 5000k fine?? Impressive.
I'm really looking forward to the next round, but the Habs are likely to lose a game or two this series - we need to be on our toes when over-confident Tampa fans come screaming back. And by on our toes I mean be on the offensive and deflect all legitimate criticism.
