Sure, or brother-factor and opportunity. I would think these players should be looking out for their own "interests" in these situations. It sucks for fans of the team that drafted them, but they are a relatively small subset of prospects (for now), and when it gets to this stage, I don't see how anybody blames them for looking out for #1. They really don't owe anything. It *is* a business, which they would surely be reminded of if they weren't the ones holding the cards.

Lots of Boston College alumni in NJ to recruit. Like Schneider, Gionta Harrold. Devils prospect Steve Santini is also his teammate currently. Hayes also went to the same prep school as Mark Fayne. Lots of connection there.. And the forward depth chart isn't that deep which might a positive for a young player wanting to break in.

I have a better option, one that should have been used: treat them like RFAs so they can sign anywhere (entry level deals still) but the team with their rights can match. This solves everything.

That's too extreme. You're basically forcing them to sign with that team then because there's no incentive not to match

Agreed. The NHLPA would shoot that down faster than you could blink.

Just a few more weeks of Hayes as Hawks property

Why Bowman continues to try and sign kid when his agent and him have no desire to sign with Hawks I don't understand

Move on and accept the L. At least Hawks get 54th overall to make it not a total loss

Is there compensation if a team can't sign their pick?

If it's a first round pick, yes.

The 54th pick to be exact....it moves down exactly 30 spots? The pick was #24 overall in 2010 and was originally New Jersey's (sent to Atlanta in the Kovalchuk trade I believe). Atlanta then flipped it to the Hawks in the Dustin Byfuglien trade.

The Hayes family seem like a real loyal bunch. Won't be long before they are cast out from every team.

Because you have to give the prospect a "bona fide offer" by the definition of the CBA. Basically, Bowman has to be acting in good faith that he is giving the prospect an opportunity to sign a contract. Otherwise if you had a 1st rounder who busted before signing their ELC, you could just never offer them and get a pick back.

He should look into Buffalo. He would have a great shot at top 6 this year. There is an owner who will spend on and off the ice. They are building a dynasty with the prospect pool they have acquired with more on the way.

can a player in college accept an ELC and still play? or do they have to go to the CHL or AHL as soon as the contract is signed?

He didn't do anything. He was traded to the Panthers as part of the Versteeg deal. There are some Hawks fans who like to ***** about him, Kevin Hayes, and Brandon Pirri for no real reason.

No. They lose their eligibility if they sign a contract.

Not that it will happen, but I'd love for the Jets to sign him. I've been a fan of his prior to him being drafted.

He'd be on the fast track to the NHL with their RW/LW depth being as poor as it is. Pretty good opportunity to get some quality ice team this coming season.

MAKE IT HAPPEN CHEVY.

I'd complain about ice time if I were in chicago.

Salary arbitration? who cares? 90% of RFA's go to arb.. guess Subban is a bad guy

FLA and CGY are definitely front runners, with a team possibly like PIT who lack depth on the wing and have a fair amount of cap space as a darkhorse. At 6'4 and 216 pounds, I can see him as a potential 2nd line power forward. To me, I see him having the potential for a much more successful career than Gaudreau. And yes, compensation for the Hawks if they are unable to resign him is a 2nd rounder in 15'.
