Draft Thread? (Mock Draft Q)

I remember a week or so ago someone said that there would be an official "catch-all" Draft thread to keep from there being an explosion of threads. Seems like it hasn't been started, but i still wanted to start a discussion on it.

There is a Mock Draft on the eponymous board that involves a fair bit of people and the Rangers are up next; Draft Guru is standing in for Satheroney. I was wondering (i guess before he picks) who you guys would select. Then afterwards i am wondering if there were any thoughts on the draft so far, his selection etc.

1.) Philadelphia Flyers – Patrick Kane
2.) Los Angeles Kings – Kyle Turris
3). Edmonton (From Columbus) - Alexei Cherepanov
4). Chicago Blackhawks - Logan Couture
5.) Phoenix Coyotes - Jakub Voracek
6.) Washington Capitals - Karl Alzner
7). Florida Panthers - Keaton Ellerby
8.) St. Louis Blues - James Van Riemsdyk
9.) Boston Bruins - Bill Sweatt
10.) Colorado Avalanche - Colton Gilles
11.) Columbus (From Edmonton) - Nick Petrecki
12.) New York Rangers -

hopefully this could be merged with the official thread, or at least just not deleted..

edit: here is the link to the thread -> http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=352362

At that spot I would take the guy with the highest upside which is Esposito.

Yeah, that was me and it's coming.

UFC 68 had me occupied.

Might as well try and get it up tonight. I'll talk to Mel in a bit.

Sutter is dropped big time with me, 2nd half of the season he's done nothing, 2 goals in his last 27 games?...not very impressive when he should be playing his heart out knowing it's his draft year.

He's got good size though.

I never got the critizisim he got in the WJC, what were expected from him?

Gagner isn't as good a skater as Parise nor is he as smart.

Considering the fact that we're going to make the playoffs we're going to have a much lower draft pick

Draft Guru had this to say:

Quote:
The New York Rangers are ecstatic to select C Sam Gagner from the London Knights (OHL) with the 12th overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

GP: 49
G: 34
A: 79
P: 113

I would definitely not mind having Gagner. He got to play with Patrick Kane and they have certainly lit it up. Gagner is definitely a playmaker with a ton of potential. He's smallish at 5'10" but he seems to be great with the puck and if he can become a great skater then he'll do just fine in the NHL.

Here's some of the latest stuff that McKeen's has on Gagner...

Commentary by McKeen's Hockey Prospects
02/08/2007 - Review: Gagner started the tournament fairly well in the first game, only to fade as things progressed when he failed to get his scoring going. Showed hints of upside, but this was simply not the right time for the 17-year old. Scouting: Has a very fluid skating stride, but his lack of acceleration and elite top speed along with his strength didn't do him any favours here, as he lacked mobility to get out of the way of bigger defenseman and he was often caught up from behind when trying to carry the puck through the neutral zone .. one could see that he has hands however and he showed glimpses of future greatness in a few inspired power play shifts .. has a tremendous set of tools, but his unfamiliarity with this level of hockey hindered him from showing much of it .. lost many battles along the boards and was utterly ineffective in any kind of traffic areas .. didn't show much intensity defensively initially, but that was actually one of the few things in his game that improved during the course of the tournament .. .has a deceptive and quick wrist shot, which he should have tried to use more often. (6-0-0-0)

02/06/2007 - After failing to make Canada's Under 18 team last season he was the youngest member for the gold medal winning 2007 WJC squad .. played sparingly in the tournament, the larger ice surface exposed some holes in Gagner's game, mainly his skating .. has been a constant in the top ten OHL scoring race since the start of the season .. exhibits a good snap shot and shows sense in when to use it .. shifty player draws defenders to him only to burn them with a quick saucer pass however the gifted play maker is guilty at times of making things look too pretty .. he stays with plays and can finish as his concentration down low is impressive .. too often he turns his body on the play and he needs to be mindful of this .. needs to make quicker decisions with the puck as his time and space will be drastically reduced at the pro level .. no doubt he should be considered a top-15 selection as it all depends on individual NHL team needs, he will however need much grooming to make the NHL jump.

12/01/2006 - He could be the dark horse on the team should he make it .. his play has warranted considerable attention as he showed the ability to make swift, smart plays with talented line mates .. played the 1st PP unit and made many nice passes that team mates did not expect .. has an innate ability to hold onto the puck till the very last second before making a pass to an open team mate .. did not shoot at all rather fed line mates constantly .. cycles the puck and protects it well along the boards .. certainly impressed the coaching staff with his increased minutes throughout the game .. a long shot but not one to be ruled out.

The only guy I'd trade up for is Voracek. Man he'd fit like a glove with guys like Korpikoski and Dubinsky. N-S top six players with skill, cannot have enough of them.
