Just saying that if he did something that needed dealing with involving those 3, it would have been dealt with. I'm not saying this story is based on reality, nor do I really care much. It wouldn't be the first time someone's been dealt in a hurry, nor will it be the last.

Someone have more info about this story?
It wouldn't surprise me if it were true or false, I just question the timing of this story.

To all those who said it's not true:

If it wasn't true, why would Gagnon write it? He's a professional journalist, and he depends on his credibility to earn his living. If it wasn't true Ribeiro could just sue him and Gagnon would lose his credibility and his salary. François Gagnon has no personal interest in making Ribeiro look bad without any proof.

Personnally I'm not interested in these kind of stories, I don't think it's the kind of thing that should become public. However, I don't think you can say it's not true.

Curiouser and curiouser.
Dunno but the summer right before Ribs was traded my gf saw him at her tim hortons with his wife or gf and she was pregnant. Sounds like he's a real ****** bag if he tried to do what you say he did.

Hey! You just called my boss' joint a crappy club!!

Seriously, I don't doubt Gagnon one bit. You'll probably find this story in another of Lance et Compte series, just like Tremblay wrote about the Schneider-Roy incident.

Listen, Carbonneau himself wasn't an angel. I could give you a name, but it would be disrespectful to the woman in question.

Well who would give out this information?

I guarantee you it wouldn't be a member of the Canadiens orginization.

So then it would have to be the girl who he had approached with this "proposition". A lot of girls have made a lot of false accusations about a lot of professional athletes.

Suiteness, to add to the bunnies: not just the athletes, but the reporters too!

same here... and the fact that Gagnon's reporting it at all if true is pretty cheap.

And to those who say "You know what kind of guy he is...", I say BS. D'you know the guy personally? I've never been a big fan of Ribs, but give the guy a rest. He's been traded, he's not playing here anymore, get over it.

Anyways.

I don't know, I'm not a journalist. It could be a member of the organization, but Gagnon won't say who it was. What I said still makes sense. He makes his living on his credibility. I don't think he would say personal stuff like that without any solid proof.

If you only knew all the personal stories beat reporters know about but won't write, because they believe it's of private matter!!! What do you think the players do when they go on a 7-day trip in California? Go to church?

Gagnon is a slime bag journalist I can't figure out why some people here hold him to such high esteem. Even if what he reported happened did he really have to report it?

As for Carbo I don't know, I think he does but they are at Dallas (his last job)

I reported the story:

1) because I was curious to know if people heard about it before the trade.

and

2) if the story is true, it means that Gainey did a "so bad" move for some purpose. I don't miss Ribs, but I can't stand Niinima...

Either way, whether the story is real or not...This doesn't deserve to be published.

Ribeiro is not involved with the team any longer, and this is a very touchy subject, especially when you cannot know if this is 100% true or not.

The Habs got rid of Ribs because his production was not good enough to ignore his negative effect on the locker room.

It does not surprise me that the French media would try to come up with something that portrays Ribs as a womanizer rather than a bad guy in the locker room with 2nd or 3rd line talent.
