It bears repeating, you are not as bad as you look when you lose, and you are not as good as you look when you win. The Senators seemed to lack the intensity and sense of urgency need to put Chicago away when they had their chances. Instead, they let them hang around on the scoreboard until it came back to bite them. Chicago got a very good game from Lalime. This is not a suprise; he can be a very good goaltender at times, especially when there is little pressure. He was ridden out of Ottawa on a rail because he was to often outperformed by better goaltenders in high stakes playoff games culminating in the infamous "***** the bed" performance against Neuwendyk and the Leafs.

Today's performance by the Sens is disappointing and, yes, a bit worrying; true championship caliber teams should rarely lose to bottom feeders. However I would suggest writing them off for the post-season is a little premature. In all likelihood they are:
  1. Not going to catch Buffalo
  2. Not going to underperform so drastically that they slip right out of the playoffs
  3. Are going to determine where they stand relative to Pittsburgh in the three head to head games remaining with the Penguins

No one knows for sure how all of this is going to come out - you have to play the games. That is why the playoff drive and the playoffs are so exciting. There are always surprises and unexpected outcomes. The Senators and their fans have had a lot of disappointments and it is hard to argue that the Sens have not underperformed in the post season. However, that is history now, and while of some improtance in guessing what might happen, it is not destiny.

Play on. Go Sens go.

And why would stupid murray put our best offensive players out for a shootout? Only a moron coach wouldn't have our defensmnen shooting. he could have at least let the slumping players who arent doing as well as i predicted take a shot.

I cant believe Murray would tell them to lose this game, we dont need a coach like that. The good thing is that next year with a different coach, all these players will be much better. But how can alfie be expected to score on a shootout with Murray coaching.
agreed. There was actually a noticable stragety by then Sens shooters. Shoot glove side and all three of them had alime, but only one excuted.

Murray gets criticezed for not putting the Big Three in SO. And when he does, he recieves similar disdain from the fanbase.

The only mistake he made is putting Comrie with Alfie. He looked like a scrub out there.

Saprykin. He does show that guys can play out of position and still contribute.

Murray has one hell of hockey dilemma. He has three elite forwards and a significant dropp off in talent after that. He can't put the Big line together. The rest of players cannot add suplimentayr scoring on a consistent basis. His alternative is to drop Alfie (or Spezza and Heatly) to a second line with players not even close to his equal and let him carry a line.

Murray only gets criticized for not putting the Big Three in the SO by people that don't seem to understand that those three are patetic at shootouts.

I wager to guess that every single defensmen on our team is better than them in a shootout.

The inverse is more true. The majority of the fanbase thinks very thing he touches turns to crap.

I have my concerns with Murray, but the level of criticism has me thinking that Murray will be scapegoated at Lalime esque proportions.

??? They were only together for two periods, and they generated a goal. I'm not saying Comrie had a spectacular game or anything, but that's one complaint I don't have.

Wow, lots of deleted posts.

Saw the first period and a half. Saprykin looked good and so did the Comrie line. Hope they stick together.

Yeah, Murray broke the Comrie line up in the third period in favour of the big line, so it'll be interesting to see who's where to start the next game.

Why when we were winning did he break up this line? The more they play together the better they will get. I think they all looked very good in the first two periods. Then they were broken up when we were winning.

So despite our worst two game stretch of since Christmas, TSN now has us ranked at #2 which is probably about where we were last year (I seem to remember us switching back and forth for first with Detroit). So much for flying under the radar.

"While the public cried out for a Gary Roberts deal, the Senators ended up with much less heralded Oleg Saprykin who, believe it or not, has played at about the same level as Roberts this season.
Key Injuries: None."
