Send a message via MSN to The Human Torch
but... an AHL team would cost the EIG some more (gasp!) money!

we can't have this sort of crazy talk here.

Bump, I figured that this thread deserved more life, it was done right after the Smyth trade, so it was burried and fast. I've heard that we may have our own AHL team next season or at least a full split affiliation. As you can see from my initial post, we have a boatload of players that should be in the AHL next season.

Like honestly why doesnt Saskatoon or Regina have our AHL team? Is it because of such garbage location? or WHL teams?

They'll be at least 2 years away un-less we draft guys from Europe or the NCAA and sign them early. CHL kids aren't eligeable to be in the AHL un-less they're at least 20 or have 4 or 5 years of CHL experience I believe. that said, we certainly need a stable environment when hopefully all 5 of those players are ready for the AHL. If we're lucky maybe 1 or 2 of those guys step in as 18 or 19 year olds and play in the NHL for us (that would likely mean that they've got star potential).

I'm bored so I'll take a stab at what our potential AHL team could look like next year. I'm assuming Pouliot, Brodziak, Stortini, JDD and Thoresen are up with the big club next year.

Jacques-Schremp-Nilsson
Trukhno-O'Marra-Umicevic
Bodie-Spurgeon-McDonald
Rohlfs-Sestito-Goulet

Chorney-Young
Gilbert-Syvret
Bisaillon-Hrabal

Dubnyk
Fisher

That's a pretty decent looking club to me and that top line should be able to dominant offensively.

I'm guessing lack of flights.

Minneapolis is the only US flight from there, and that too isn't regular.

Obviously WHL is a bigger reason. The Oilers wanted to go there, but the Blades lease states no other team can play in that arena.

What about Almtorp? Maybe he would get Sestito's spot, or Umicevic's if he doesn't come over. I remember Bob Stauffer being pretty high on Almtorp coming into this season.

Good call, Almtorp would almost certainly come over if the team lands an AHL team. Its sounds like he actually wanted to play in the AHL last season which is a damn good sign.

I think it would be great if the Oilers could have their AHL team in Calgary.

If nothing else than for the irony.

Is there a nice arena there other than the Saddledome? They would have the Flames, Hitmen, Roughnecks and our team there...a little much... I think...maybe Red Deer??

There is no chance Grebeshkov plays an AHL game next season. None.

Springfield does seem like a logical place. The Oilers have an abundance of players who should be in the AHL, Tampa has diddly squat and it is showing in the standings.

We need someone like conan o'brian to endorse the AHL team like Stephen Colbert does with the saginaw spirit!

Thats the team Guy was dropping, Springfield, MA. But he says the Oilers are tentative on announcing it because they were still Tampabay's team.

Stauffer was high on Lupul too and where did that get anybody? He may have been high on glue as well which would explain some things...

I will gladly take your farm team here in Winnipeg. I have not and will not support any player or organization related to the Vancouver Canucks. Even after so many years, I have despised the canucks each and every day since the peca cheap shot on Teemu Selanne.
