Vinny Lacavalier for the 2nd pick in the draft

What do you all think about this? Vinny's game is complete and they definitely need someone like Lacavalier to look up to?

Ummmm...NO.

While Vinny is a great player and valuable asset, his contract is WAY too much against the cap ($6.875M). Being that we're rebuilding, I can't see us having 30% of our cap space locked up in two players (Blake/Lecavalier).

First, theres no one in this draft that would entice TB to deal Lecavalier for. It would take our 1st and a few more assets.

Second, the way the Kings have been playing of late, we're going to fall to the 5th or 6th slot.

Uhh...3rd in points in the league = 2nd overall pick in a weak draft?

Ovechkin for a 1st and 2nd then?

Anyone who thinks this is a bad move for the Kings is kidding themselves.

One of the elite talents in the world, just entering his prime, leading the league in scoring - but less valuable than a second overall pick in a draft with no superstars....

Ha ha.

Vinny being one of my favorites, I would do it as a Kings fan. Tampa fans might have something to say about it though.

Another idea is Heater...rumour has it he will be asking for a $7.5M contract extension this summer. Ottawa will have a tough time affording that!

I don't think there's an analogy that could describe how quickly I would make a deal for either player if all it took was the 1st round pick and a little more.

Vinny for a 1st round (2nd overall) would make the Joe Thornton deal look respectable

The only deal I can think of is Lecavalier for Frolov, Visnovsky, and a first, and I doubt LA does that. They are not one player away from being a Cup contender.

It'll take a whole lot more than a top 5 pick in a weak draft to get a 26 year old franchise center who's just begining to turn into the player he was always expected to be.

I've said it before and I will say it again, any deal that lands Lecavalier will be monsterously one sided for Tampa.

At this point in his career, Lecavalier is worth 3 1st round picks.
He's an awesome player.

Kind of like Boston's? Oh wait!

I'd easily give up this years 1st and the Stars 08' 1st pick plus O'Sullivan and a defenceman not named Lubo or Johnson. That's more than enough.
Tampa more than anybody needs cap flexibility.

Vinny is the only player i'd want out of Tampa. They can keep Richards and St. Louis.

I can see T.B. trying to acquire too many of our prospects for this guy. It wouldn't be a smart financial move as well.

Actually, if the Kings were to get Lecavalier for that package, they MAY be able to sign a couple of free agents to fill the vacancy that would be left from the departure of Frolov and Visnovsky. The cap space would be available for the Kings to pursue a defenseman like Sheldon Souray to replace Lubo (or maybe Kimmo Timonen as another option).

There are plenty of wingers that will be available, and it would be an upgrade to add Kariya in place of Frolov, especially if he's paired with Kopitar or Lecavalier.

But this is all hypothetical...

No franchise players available in this year's draft. Tampa would not make that deal. Other years when Ovechkin's, Crosbys, Malkins were in the draft they would have.
