He plays a lot better at the center ice position. As bad as he looked at wing, he's still on pace for a 25 goal season. Some people just have unreasonable expectations, media included.

You overrate him. Getting rid of that contract is all that matters. He has a NMC, so you have to deal with whatever team he'd waive for. You'd take whatever they offer.

We understand that offensively, played at center, he is decent. Defensively he is awful. But he is only going to get worse, and it will happen fast. That contract has a very legitimate chance of looking horrible real fast. Getting rid of him while you can is the best decision possible imo.

This answered my question. I understand your point, however I don't really see him degrading to the point where he's totally worthless. I could be wrong.

I have already told you. 1-way centers like him don't lead to winning hockey. Having to shelter them every shift is a recipe for disaster. He isn't worth it now, and he's only going to get worse. Look at the top teams (Bruins, Pens, Blues, Ducks, Blackhawks, Kings). None of them have anything remotely close to a sheltered 1-way center. It just doesn't work. It causes so many match-up headaches for your coach and the other players. You have to run your whole team around the idea that this one guy can't be on the ice for any shift against one of another teams better lines. It's a nightmare.

I see Vinny as about the same ax Briere over the last few seasons, but maybe a little better. I would actually rather have Briere on his current contract than lecavaliers since it only has one year left. We need more two way forwards who can play in all three zones since we have an average defense and will be brining morin, ghost, and hagg up in the next couple of seasons. We cannot continue to have one dimensional players especially when they are not elite or near the top in that category.

He's definitely hustling more. Every shift the last two games his feet were moving.

I'd also move voracek to the 2nd PP and put vinny in that 1st slot.

He's got the best shot on the team AINEC.

That's nice, but we'd be even more susceptible to short handed goals than we already are.

You really think he's that defensively inept?

To play the point on a PP and play center against decent opposition? Yes.

That is my biggest complaint with him. Even if you are playing out of position, you can at least give it your all. And from what I have been watching he wasn't. Now that he is back at center he all of the sudden wants to play hard. That pisses me off. It should not take him 4 months to figure out where he should be positionally, that is just outrageous.

I know +/- isn't the best stat. But Vinny is a team worst -14. The three closest are Hall(-13), Rinaldo (-13) and Grossmann (-8). Schenn playing on the same line as Vinny with similar point total (39 for Schenn and 33 for Lecavalier) is a +1. Im not sure but I would guess they get around the same amount of PP time as well and neither play the PK. And Vinny has played 13 less games.

The next closest top 9 forwards are Read and Simmonds both at minus 4. At least Read gets a ton of PK minutes and Simmonds brings physicality and intensity.

Vinny's playing a lot better lately, and I've criticized him a bunch this season but his overall plays is improved.

if Vinny ends up scoring a bunch in the playoffs with some clutch goals taboot, then maybe.
Danny proved his relative worth in that fashion, and his horrendous defensive play was an accepted trade-off.

I was thinking more of the regular season Briere. But one could probably argue that Briere's offensive abilities in the playoffs were negated by his defensive flaws especially in our last two playoffs, with 2010 probably being an exception since that line was so dominate and other teams had to play their best lines against the Richards and Giroux lines

quick question about vinny's trade options. I know we can trade him and pick up cap space, but can we pick up actual salary? Can we pick up salary and not pick up cap space or vice versa?

I think you have to do both. Up to a maximum of 50%.

I do not believe trading cash (which is essentially what is happening in your scenario) is allowed under the CBA. The only thing you can do is retain a percentage of cap hit.

This ****ing guy needs to just leave. He is completely useless. Paul Holmgren is a ****ing idiot for signing him. I said that from the first day he was signed. If Lecavalier has any shred of self awareness he should realize how awful he is and retire. I can't take him being on the Flyers 1 more ****ing game.

Per Bill...

Good job Holmgren....

I hope this is the last expired aged superstar the Flyers sign. It has to stop...wasted cap space.

Quote:
Lecavalier had an opportunity in Game Three to center the second line. The hoped-for spark wasn't there. Lecavalier has basically become a player who is a threat from a stationary position either blasting one-timers from the right circle or if the puck gets to him near the right post. If it involves skating the puck to a scoring area himself, Lecavalier struggles.

Nice try...

no they shouldn't shoot their load on these types of players anymore especially at a position that is already crowded...

Holmgren wasted part of his get out of jail free card from the Bryz buyout on a washed up one dimensional geezer....
