Del Zotto on the left side of the 2nd or better 3rd pairing and powerplay is a good move.

Losing a shot-blocking more defensive Klein is affordable.

The Preds need offense! Only 5 of 30 teams have scored less goals! (of course, only five teams have more goals against ).

Nashville has been one of my fav teams for a long time but if it wasn't for the development of Seth Jones and emergence of Craig Smith I'd think this Peds season insignificant.

I just now was able to turn on the game, and within 30 seconds of 1 shift I am convinced that the trade was a great one. 2 times in the same shift Del Zotto put a pass right on the forwards stick just as he was entering the zone and allowed our forward to enter the offensive zone with speed and the puck under control.

So - we want to bet that MDZ's first assist will be on a goal to Stalberg, then?

Hey guys, in light of this trade, I was just wondering what kind of defensive system your Preds play? AV has the Rangers playing man-on-man, instead of the zone which Torts used. Thanks. I think you guys will really like this trade down the road.

I get the trade, left side/right side, younger, potential. But I just hate to see Klein go. He's a good guy that gave everything he had to the team every night.

Good luck to Klein in NY!

Based on his performance last night, Del Zotto as a player will be fine. However, after last night, I have some concerns about the makeup of the defense, and it's something 101st brought up in the GDT, as well.

If you look at every Stanley Cup champion for the last eight years, they've all had a very good stay-at-home type who logs a lot of minutes and goes out there with no purpose outside of goal prevention and physicality - Hjalmarsson, Boychuk, Scuderi, and the like. After trading Klein, the closest player we have to that style is Bartley, who isn't on the same level as the latter defenders.

We obviously aren't competing for the Cup this year, but if we make the playoffs, I'm not sure this defense has the right mix to be successful in a more physical postseason environment.

I think in the playoffs Weber is that guy for us at even strength, even though he obviously is much more than a simple stay at home guy. Most playoff teams have to sacrifice potential offense to have that guy on the ice, but we won't.

How did DZ play the other day? Hope he's doing well so far. Klein looked solid, little out of place but on a new team that should be expected.

MDZ has played pretty well for 2 games. He's hasn't done anything glaringly wrong and has done some good things as well. Love his passing as this team lacks good passers.

Hope Klein is doing well and glad he's going to get to play in the outdoor game in Yankee Stadium. Guys who've spent their whole career in Nashville miss out on a lot of things like that.

I like him, personally. I think he can grow a lot here and playing with Jones will help that. He doesn't make any glaring mistakes and is pretty good in the O zone regarding puck possession. How's Klein doing?

So...we gave up Klein for a guy we now don't even want to re-sign?

I was really busy at college and couldn't watch pretty much any games after this trade, so I can't weigh in on MDZ's play, but Klein was a crazy valuable asset. Very good contract, steady 2nd pairing D that is killer on the PK. Easily could have returned a solid 2nd line IMO. Instead...we get someone who we don't even want anymore. Ouch.

Never understood trading Klein for a defenseman.

More speculation, but I've heard people posting about it. Nothing official that I know of. I know some of the speculation came from Poile not mentioning him in the Trotz press release while mentioning basically all of our other D.

It depends on the second line guy, but I don't really see it unless we were adding more on to it. A Sam Gagner-type with a bad contract, sure, but a meaningful second liner? I don't know.

I would have thought that Trotz leaving might open the door to MDZ being less eager to leave, but perhaps not.

I was one of those who thought about that from the email that was sent out, but early in the letter, it does mention that we acquired him for Klein. So IDK what the deal is.

Early in the season, there was some talk about Klein for Stastny and Avs fans seemed ok with it, maybe with a slight add. I think someone like Moulson would have been easily getable. I know those are both UFAs, but still. Honestly, I think with a bit of an add we could have maybe gotten Yak early on this year.

Klein + our 1st would have gotten some team's attention in a big way.

Horrible trade.

too early to jump to conclusions. If we qualify and re-sign MDZ for our new coach, who then plays him, this was still a good trade.

If we trade his rights for somethig equivalent to what we could have got for Klien(who I believe we substantially overvalued re: his trade potential because of his contract) then its a headscratcher but still OK

if we let him walk without being qualified, then poile just needs to pack his bags and move on now rather than waiting for next summer
