Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no improvement in the team at all according to the big post above. We actually get worse because his unwanted forwards are Samsonov, Kovalev, Ryder and Perezhogin....who are all goal scorers on any other team. If the Habs would play an offensive style of game, those players would excel and put the numbers up that everybody expects them to....but to make them play a defensive system that they are not comfortable playing in is terrible.

We have too many young prospects.....IMO. We need to trade a few of them away and get good returning players.

Players like Perezhogin, Kostitsyn, Grabovski, Chipchura, Ferland, Milroy and Murray are all players that are young and that still have potential and might be worth something in a trade. I'm not saying to trade them all, but moving a couple of them because we don't have room for them on the team, wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if we can get a good player or 2 back for them.

I wouldn't be surprise if Latendresse play in Hamilton next year. He surely can use a full year of developpement on the first line over there, while it would allow Perez and Kost to have a real chance (considering Samsonov and Kovalev are almost untradable). Latendresse becomes a nice commodity next year since he could be called back whenever the team want.

I agree with the original post until:

"So now we have 8 forwards, 3 defenseman and 2 goalies under contract for 22 357 000$ + 475 000 + 562 500 + 801 800 = 24 196 300 $"

I agree that Huet and Halak have a great chance to be our tandem next year. Total = 3.5M$ in goalies.

I don't agree with the 3 defensemen. Those marginal D costing 2M$ per year are killing us. We definetely have to trade one Bouillon or Dandenault. Plus I wouldn't pay over 1.5M$ for Komi right now. So let's say 4 defensemen (Streit, Gorges, Komi, Bouillon/Dandi) for a total of 4.5M$. Like it or not Markov and Souray are going to be back. My personal guess is around 9M$ for both. I also suggest that we add a 6/7th d-man for around 600K$ (maybe O'Byrne or Emelin). Grand total = 14M$.

Now, about the forwards, we have about 27M$ space. I think we can trade Samsonov during the summer. Let's just be creative like the Devils with Malakhov and we can find a partner. So starting with the other 7 forwards (-1 playing in the AHL) signed we are at 12.7M$. Add Higgins, Plekanec and Perez for 3M$. Add a top center by trade or free-agency at 7M$ (Brière or Lecavalier for example). Give a chance to Chip (0.9M$). Trade Ryder. We therefore have 3.4M$ left to find 2 forwards (one 3rd liner and one goon).

My line-up:

Higgins - ??? - Latendresse
Kost - Koivu - Kovalev
Perezhogin - Plekanec - ?
Begin - Chipchura - Lapierre

Markov - Komi
Souray - Bouillon/Dandenault
Gorges - Streit/???

Huet/Halak

I dont see why Lats should be with the big club next year, I think he will have to pay his dues like any other prospects in the AHL.(For 1 year, at least.)

I see all of those in front of him.
(Top 6 role)
Perezhogin
Kost
Grabovski

(Bottom 6 role)
Chipchura
Milroy

I know it won't happen but, if the cap is up to 48-49M (I heard it's possible).
I would like to see :

Higgins (1.5) Koivu (4.75) Ryder (2.3)
Smyth (5.75) Brière (6) Kovalev (4.5)
Lats (0.85) Pleks (1.15) Perez (0.75)
Begin (1.057) Lappy (0.5625) Kost (0.8018)
Murray (0.6)

Markov (5.5) Komi (1.9)
Bouillon (1.875) Dandy (1.725)
Streit (0.6) Gorges (0.750)
Coté (0.5)

Huet (2.875)
Halak (0.492)

For a total of : $46 788 300

+ Sammy buyout (3.525 * 0.6666 /2 ) = 1 173 825

Total of : $47 962 125.

I know I know......

i don't know where you learned math but 1/2 of 3 mil is 1.5

so .666 of 3.5 is 1.173 mil?

edit: why did you devide it by 2?

Maybe i'm wrong but buyout are paid at 2/3 of the players contract.
This count against the cap but can be spread on two years.

3.525 * 2/3 or .666 / 2 years.

Please correct me if im wrong.
