Rachunek, of all people, came flying in looking like he was going to kill someone. I thought it was Avery at first, but I was plesantly suprise to see Rachunek doing something for once.
The worst part was Hollweg was skating at him, giving Ryan no chance to avoid the hit. Toss him for the season for all I care, he won us the game. I thought he caught his eye, luckily it was just the chin, and Hollweg is fine.

It was more like the Brad May/ Steve Heinze play. He'll get the rest of the REGULAR season and the first round of the playoffs. Just a prediction. Not as bad as McSorley but worse than Cam Janssen.

I don't think anyone saw this one coming. He definitely deserves a lengthy suspension for this one. Luckily the Isles have an extra forward now so that this won't impact our roster down in Bridgeport.

I am in agreement with a poster on the Islander's board who called this worse than the McSorely incident.

Hollweg only received a cut on the chin, but the punishment should not equal the injury.

No more NHL hockey for Simon - ever. If the refs are going to crack down and call phantom hooks and holds, you have to drop the hammer on this one.

first I don't see how anyone can say that wasn't wose then the Mcsorley one. Yes the Mcsorley one was a stupid **** and it hit him in the head that is why you might think it was worse, but if you actually look at the 2 hits, The stick of Simons was used much harder then the one Mcsorely did, both were dirty hits and Ithink Simon shoudl be gone the same way Mcsorley was a year and can't be re-instated until he talks to the league

I say there should be an order for arrest put on Simon. He was using a hockey stick as a weapon in an attempt to murder/injure another human being. I'm not exaggerating. It was some luck or a hand of God that guided Simon's stick 5 mm higher than Ryan's throat. He was wielding a dangerous weapon.

I actually liked Simon in his days as part of Barnaby-Messier-Simon line. But now I'm ashamed of him ever being a Ranger. What he did was the one of most sickening things I've witnessed in sports (the other being Bertuzzi incident).

You can't just snap like that, especially very big men wearing skates and holding sticks. Thank goodness it just caught his chin.

If you ever saw the Trent McCleary incident, that illustrates how it MIGHT have been worse. A crushed larynx, a likely result if that stick was a 1/2" lower, would have been a serious situation.

I have no doubt he's done for the season. That's about as brutal as you can get.

He's done.

In all honesty, I don't think Simon was looking to hit Hollweg in the face. After watching the replay over and over again I think Simon was trying to slash him in the arm/chest, but he was so fired up that the stick came up high on Hollweg who isn't that tall to begin with. I'm not defending Simon and I think that he should get a minimum of 10 games, maximum of the season + playoffs.

Avery just confirmed what I've thought about Simon all along, namely that he is an honest player and this really isn't in his character at all.

Thank god Hollweg is okay and I'm sure he'll be getting a call from Simon tomorrow.

The NHL is trying to get ESPN interested in being a broadcast partner again, as the contract w/ VS begins to expire their image is everything. Two big ugly incidents in one week (Jansenns, Simon) my bet is the league in it's own self interest makes a big statement.

What he deserves: Permanent suspension and/or possible assault charges.
What he will probably get: 15-40 games.

At first I thought he hit him in the neck, especially when I saw Henrik calling for help. With all these injuries/near injuries this season it really makes you respect what these guys through and the risks they take.

big isles fan here and that was very unneccessary. that is not how the isles play and have never seen simon come close to doing that ever. embarassed to see him with a isles jersey. should be out for the rest of the season plus playoffs. absolutely rediculous, drop the gloves settle it like that not like a baseball bat at his face. who knows any higher would have added to the concussion list of him any lower would have hit his throat and possibly killed him. rediculous. simon should be ashamed of himself

Like I said before..I remember Simon when he played here and that was never his style. That is not Ted Nolan hockey and that is not Islanders hockey. As much as we may dislike them, they play the game the right way. They are not a dirty team and I don't think any less of the other players on that team besides that one dirtbag.

I don't see any reason for him to come back this season.

I bet the NHL will be lenient just because Hollweg wasn't injured.

I would have to agree, he should say good bye to part of next year, hollweg is lucky not be in the hospital. That was an intent to decapitate. No room in the league for this and the league needs to send that message.
