Malik: Is he out of the doghouse?

I vote yes. The guy has been solid since I can remember now after his injury. He looks really good out there.

Threw a few nice hits not this game, but in Monday's game, as well.

Well just look at that plus/minus. That should tell you all.

I do think his play has been alot better lately. Still gets caught just standing around sometimes, but thats going to happen. I never really understood the bashfest that he took around here for so long.

Seems like he is, the Rangers really need him to play well defensively now that they've traded Aaron Ward and Tyutin is hurt.

I can tolerate him again... Is he a bargain at his salary? No... but he's certainly not Ozo, or Kaspar either...

He's remarkably solid for somebody with the mobility of an orange construction cone... he plays a good game when I don't notice him out there.

But I wouldn't hesitate to sit him when Tyutin comes back.

Eh, let's be honest... You have to sit Pock, not Malik. I know we all love youth, but Pock does nothing for me. Girardi on the other hand, is going nowhere. Very solid...

i can see the rangers scratching pock against the penguins and dressing liffiton..pock has done nothing and looks lost at times in the neutral and defensive zones...

Malik looks like a 5th defenseman..which is fine because that's exactly what he is..

I never had a problem with him. I just think most people on here miss Poti too much so they pick on poor Marek cause he's slow.

I'm inclined to agree. I was high on him when we got that first taste at the end of the season in 03-04. But to be honest, he just hasn't seemed to develop the way I thought he would, and he's got some real flaws defensively. I wonder if he should possibly go back to playing forward.

malik's really been out of the dog house for the last few months i think. I mean we won't be getting him confused with lidstrom or pronger anytime soon, but he is at least contributing to the team in a positive way (and not just his +/-)

ranger fans, especially at the garden, always seem to need a scapegoat to boo etc. and malik is an easy target because he is slow

He's played better, but he's still too slow, and still makes one horrible pass for every three or four good ones. I'm not going to vote, cause I think he's still got one foot in the chateau bow wow.

I'm undecided, he has been playing much much better than he was earlier on in the year no doubt about that. I'm still iffy on his play, I would love to see him keep it up however.

not for me

he's still pathetic in my opinion

Still throwing the puck up the middle, still not physical enough and still scares the bejeezus out of me when he's being forechecked behind Henrik, turns over the puck at the slightest hint of physicality from the forechecker

BUT, the defence as a whole has played better of late and I would have to include Malik in that seeing as he is a defenceman.

Still in Le-Cheatteau Bow-Wow IMHO

Same here, thats why I voted "Maybe so," but to his credit, he's looked a lot better out there recently.

I really thought of him as being a bad player. He gets caught out every now and then. I know the people on HFboards mostly don't like him for his play but when I go to the garden they seem to like him pretty much.

Agreed.

I'd say Roszileetch has been our worst D-man, but in a 5 game unbeaten streak I can't say anyone is in a doghouse.

Though he gave a pass away last night by tossing it up the middle in his own zone that nearly gave me a heart attack (Rosy bailed him out), I think he's played well since coming back from injury. Still slow as hell though.

His brutal defense almost cost us the regulation win last night, pinching in with a one goal lead and only minutes left. I dont care what his plus/minus is, his decision making is awful.

I've really been noticing his excellent first passes. He's still a bumbling bafoon on the powerplay though, and his one-on-one skills are horrid.

Oh no? He played quite regularly during the early part of the season. Although he's seen reduced time recently he had 43 seconds yesterday and was responsible for not one but two odd man rushes. He also played over two minutes against the Isles on Monday.

You should know better than to think I'd let you get away with that garbage...
