I for one will excited for the Flyers next year as always. I think we will do something crazy at the draft tho since its in our backyard. Stick with the youth and lets see how we grow together as a team. Don't need any knee jerk reactions because we lost a series to a team that has given us fits for a while now. Mason looks like a steady goaltender we needed. Would like to see some speed up at forward. Even if it means letting loose guys I like such as Hartnell. Until next year, GO FLYERS!!!!

I know he has a NMC, but I can't imagine you want too see him here. I still believe that there are a couple teams who would take him and that vinny would allow.

Wow, I do not want Emery back next season. This team clearly needs athletic, mobile goalies, and you can get one to backup Mason for a million or less.

I think Vinny would waive his NMC to go to a team where he can be 2C.

I would be very disappointed with that offseason.

Yea doubt the Flyers dont make atleast some changes and/or upgrades. That defense minus Timonen and adding Fayne (ewwww) would get torn apart. Thats a lottery pick team Chris.

So basically you want to keep the forward group the same, and downgrade the blueline

a 33-year old Vernon Fiddler is >>>> than Rinaldo,Hall
drive everybody nuts, very good defensively, good at faceoffs, plays on the PK,doesn't make stupid penalties and can put some ****ing points.

Why can't we get 4th liners like this.

Fiddler would be awesome to pick up actually. The problem is, what about Laughton?

no need to rush him

trade B Schenn to the Sens for Ryan. unload Grossmann for a pick. fill the gaps with UFA signings.

if they can't get Ryan, maybe try for Vanek, Gaborik or Vrbata. g needs a winger that can score badly.

I want vinny gone but I somehow don't think it'll happen.

D is still mediocre. maybe Homer will go after Niskanen. Boyle will be a UFA, and even though he's a fossil, that's exactly the type of guy Homer would target and give a 5 year deal to.

I don't want to trade for Bobby Ryan. He is a UFA in one more year. And there is a good chance if he goes to free agency he will come here. I'd rather trade the Schenn's for an asset will we probably not acquire in a year.

same here

If he re-signs with OTT, so be it. I dont see the point in giving up assets that we can't offord to give up for Ryan. Add that to the fact that acquiring him next season won't make up cup contenders until the blueline is fixed

I'd be up for trading Brayden Schenn. I don't think he's going to be one of these guys who comes back to haunt us... although who would have said that about Carbomb? B.Schenn would rather try to dangle through three guys and self destruct rather than pass to the open man. He tries to stick handle too much. He's not G or Voracek. B.Schenn needs to simplify everything he does. Just ask Wayne.

If B.Schenn a 1st, 2nd, got us Eberle.... I'd be pretty stoked.

Love Laughton with Coots and Read, and there's also the opportunity to switch up the lines and try him as "2C" between Harts and Simmer
(Is the coots/read/ akeson line really the 3rd line???) bumps Vinny to 4th and Akeson to 3rd in the process.

If Laughton doesn't work out as well, you can still put him on a wing and stick Vinny back on the 2nd

The problem with being an armchair GM is it's impossible to know essential information as an outsider. I would like trade for certain players, but I have no idea who is available and what their asking price is. So I'll just outline what kinds of moves the team should make and hope that Holmgren/Hextall will seize opportunities if they feel the same way.

- Lecavalier should be dumped. It might require the team retain some salary, but it's clear he doesn't fit on this team. I doubt the NMC will be a huge obstacle, since Vinny likely feels the same way.
- Grossmann should be traded. I don't think there will be as much difficulty getting him off the books.
- I'll assume Timonen's done. The Flyers should target a stopgap option for the next 1-2 years unless some other opportunity knocks. Hopefully Gostisbehere/Hagg/Morin can develop quickly, but it's premature to pencil them into next year's lineup. Ideal stopgap option is a decent puckmover and won't cost top prospects/picks to acquire (like a veteran or UFA).
- Let Emery walk if he doesn't agree to a pay cut. Sign a reliable journeyman as the #2 like Chad Johnson, Al Montoya or Thomas Greiss depending on who's available. It might be worth taking a look overseas.
- Add skill to the top 6. Even strength scoring was a problem all year, especially outside of the first line. If the Flyers want to take the next step, they need to drastically improve secondary scoring and take some pressure of Giroux. Lecavalier was supposed to be the answer, but the team needs to look elsewhere.
- Gauge the value of the Schenns. It wouldn't be the end of the world if they stay on, but they aren't playing like the second liner and shutdown defender they were supposed to become. Brayden could be effective on another teams scoring third/2B line with potential to become a second liner, but the Flyers need a center with better production given Couturier's checking role. Luke can still be fine on the bottom pairing, but he's not good enough on the PK to eat Timonen's minutes. Hopefully MacDonald can fit into that role next season, but I'd be more comfortable if the team acquires another legit PKer. Maybe that means freeing up Luke's roster spot. Whatever return the Schenns get could potentially fill another hole.

This is how I view this offseason:

Focus is how to upgrade D via dumping Grossmann. Vinny gone. I would only trade the Schenns if it was possible to get Shattenkirk or Yandle or comparable. (In that case target a UFA forward like Moulson or Vrbata).

I think they leave it open for Ghost/Alt/Morin/Hagg to surprise and win a job over Gus (bumping him to 7th).

(Also changed lines to what I would like to see).

FORWARDS
Matt Read ($3.625m) / Claude Giroux ($8.275m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Michael Raffl ($1.100m) / Sean Couturier ($1.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Brayden Schenn ($2.250m) / Jason Akeson ($0.715m)
Adam Hall ($0.600m) / (Recall Laughton after LTIR Pronger) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m)
Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Mark Streit ($5.250m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Andrew MacDonald ($5.000m) / XXXXXXXXX
Erik Gustafsson ($1.000m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Chris Pronger ($4.941m) /
GOALTENDERS
Steve Mason ($4.100m)
Thomas Greiss ($1.250m)

SALARY CAP: $71,100,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,356,429; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $8,743,571
