Leafs-Flyers

Brayden Schenn
Scott Laughton

8th overall pick
Jake Gardiner

Really don't know how the value matches up in this deal so could flyers fans chime in here? (+'s being added accordingly).

They get a high pick and a young high potential PMD, which the latter they need. The value is actually pretty fair.

They have a bunch of young PMD in the works. They only need a #1 guy.

Value is actually pretty good but it doesn't really interest me much. I don't want to say we don't need Gardiner, since I'd love to have him, but we went so defensive heavy in the draft the past 2 years that defense is no longer our issue (in about 2 years). We need some younger forward prospects like Laughton in the system.

Pass from Philly. Not bad value though.

Were in a weird state right now. Forward prospect pool is very weak, but the NHL forward group is strong albeit needing improvement. Our prospect D is booming, but our NHL D is sub-par albeit with some good pieces. Can't really afford to lose Laughton and young, developing D isn't something needed to trade for.

Typical trade proposal where Toronto's perspective is ignored and Toronto is expected to jump on it because some value is coming back. B.Schenn has a hot property five years ago, doesn't solve our top six center issues, he's a lateral move. Laughton? We can just draft a more interesting with 8th overall to best suited our needs.

Gardiner is our best possession blueliner, why trade him from a team that struggles on puck possession?

Pass from Toronto.

I'd rather keep Gardiner then move him for Schenn.

8th overall for Laughton doesn't help.

Based on what? The all star status of Schenn and Laughton? BTW, Gardiner is also the most valuable player in the deal. Lat's assume Gardiner for Schenn is fair, I dont agree, but whatever. How the hell can you justify Laughton is worth the 8th pick???

from Leafs POV maybe it is but from Flyers POV there is no way it would be considered.

Gardiner<Schenn
8th<<Laughton.

Leafs don't improve on defense by trading their best one...

I'll bite.
Who is TO drafting @ #8?

BTW, when did Gardiner become an all star?
Are Bozak & Kadri (if he plays center) better then Schenn?

From what I can gather there seems to be a good chance that William Nylander will be available at the 8th pick. Quite frankly that kids vision and passing is remarkable. I would say he is on par or better than the above two players. (In terms of potential/skill sets.)

There is a very good chance he'll be available @ #8.
That raises the questions of how long it will take him to adjust to smaller ice & an 82 game season. Also will his size take the game to game pounding of the NHL or even AHL.

It doesn't make any sense from Philly perspective.

Value wise though it is pretty close.

I like it for Philly.

Laughton is a pure center. It would be a disservice to move him to the wing, and in Philly he'll always be stuck behind Couturier.

Philly needs wingers apparently, and someone like Virtanen or Ritchie would be a great fit on the Flyers. Yes they're RW but they both play that Flyers' brand of hockey.

-2nd on the leafs in ice time(21:04). 1st in EV ice time(18:10).

-31 points on the year, leads our dmen in goals.

-1st on the leafs in GA/60 5v5 with 2.17

-Leads Leafs in Corsi. When he is on the ice, we tend to be attacking more often then defending.

Same questions were brought up with Claude Giroux, let's give Nylander time to see how good he will be...no deal. Not even Gardiner for Schenn straight up.

Id prefer one really good piece coming back over two half-decent pieces. Leafs dont need more 2nd line / tweener centres. We already have Bozak, Kadri, Holland, had Bolland and Grabo, etc. We need an upgrade, not just more bodies.
