With injuries already eroding their roster, the Rangers may face the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow afternoon without Jaromir Jagr, who exited yesterday's 3-2 overtime loss in Pittsburgh when, he said, his sore right leg "kept getting worse and worse."
"It bothered me a lot against the Islanders," said Jagr, who removed himself after his last shift of the second period. "The whole leg got numb (today). I was thinking if I stayed there it was gonna get worse and worse.
I missed practice Friday (to rest). Hopefully, I can play...hopefully."
The potential loss of Jagr overshadowed the defeat, which came when the shorthanded Rangers---taking too many penalties---blew another two-goal, third-period lead as Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby scored power-play goals and defenseman Marek Malik deflected a Colby Armstrong wrister from the lower right circle over Henrik Lundqvist at 1:19 of the extra session.
Well, Its an opportunity for someone else to step up to the plate.
Come on Boys, none of this negative s**t. Lets do it. Lets make the playoffs. Look at Buffalo and how many regulars were lost and all they do is keep winning. We have depth at the minors, bring someone up and lets give them our full support. Maybe a week of rest will help Jaromir.
I don't claim to be an MD however I have had my share of sports related injuries. Numbness in the leg could possibly be related to a back or nerve (sciatic) injury, everybody is different, they can be tricky. Here's to the team, we have wanted it more, thats how we won this week; lose 1 ok, Beat Canes!!!
I dont know, everytime I see Callahan play, I dont get impressed. He doesnt seem to skate fast or make pretty plays or be overly physical. Dawes although short seems to really be fast and knows how to bury the puck.
A lame Jagr is no good to the Rangers. Rest him for a couple games and let the kids and other guys grind it out. Hank will give them a chance to win....and if they shoot the puck maybe they will. This is a great opportunity to see some people step up.
Pump some cordizone into him and he'll be good to go.
If it is a sciatic nerve, cortisone or any other medication will do no good. I've had that happen to me a couple of times and unless there is a definitive cause for the sciatica, all you can do is wait it out.
The way I look at it is that injuries always seem to even out for teams over the course of the season. We were incredibly injury free over the first 2/3 of the season (as we were last year) and now the law of averages has caught up to us (the same way it did last year). This team just can't seem to catch a break(not an ankle or a leg or an arm) (except for 94 when except for Mike Hudson at season's end, we had few injuries). Those of us long time NYR fans still can picture our own defenseman, Dale Rolfe, breaking Jean Ratelle's ankle with a slap shot towards the end of 1972, perhaps costing us the Cup.
Just part of the never ending frustration of being a Ranger fan. Dawes has been called up.....
If he can't feel his leg then he can't skate and he'll be of little use to the Rangers. I know that he's the captain so he feels a lot of pressure to play when he's injured (and he's basically never recovered 100% from his shoulder surgery so in a way he's been playing hurt all year), but there's a point where you can't do anything on the ice at all and should really sit.
He really looked dejected in the post-game interview he gave. That guy is transparent as can be. I felt bad for him.
Sam thinks Jagr will play tomorrow. Dawes is up as a precaution.
It sounds like Jaromir Jagr will try to play tomorrow against Carolina despite leaving today’s game early with a sore right leg. But to be safe, the Rangers are likely to call up Nigel Dawes from Hartford.
I admire the gamesmanship, but, he needs to sit and rest. We have been playing well defensively, when we are not deflecting pucks into our own goal, so let him sit.
We need to play a more forechecking game. The Czechs with their cycling on the PP once again changed the whole flow of the game, for the worst. We are at our best when we forecheck and counter.
Normally in a situation, You would say yes Give Jagr a rest because you don't want to risk further injury. Especially since he is the captain and very valuable. But the Rangers are so banged up right now with injuries. Hossa,Shanahan,Weekes and Tyutin The Rangers can't afford anymore guys out.
He'll be on the PP..Renney would never think twice about not using him...but a lot of feel the PP would be better without him because everyone on his PP unit is always looking for him first instead of thinking shot...thus we end up getting no shots half the time.
