What overall would you trade Brayden Schenn for?

Debate on the Flames board, what team would trade their first for Brayden Schenn, needs aside

Schenn's potential isn't on the first line anymore... A team holding one of the top 10 picks wants first line potential... He's still a great young player, just not worth the trade.

His value probably sits anywhere around the 5th to 10th picks.

8-12.

I agree that Schenn might not look like a potential 1st liner anymore, but then neither do the guys after the first handful or so of picks in this draft. Schenn for a 1st after that drop off is fair, imo.

Forwards since the 2004 draft up until the 2009 draft picked in the 11-20 range who have over .45 PPG: (Schenn is at .45 5PPG since entering the NHL.

Drew Stafford
Alexander Radulov
Travis Zajac
Anze Kopitar
Brian Little
Chris Stewart
Michael Grabner

So of the 33 forwards picked over 6 years (including his draft and the 5 drafts before) in the 11-20 range 7 have better career PPG than Schenn. Guys aged 22-28... so prime age.

21.2%

From the 1990-2004 NHL drafts players picked in the 11-20 range played 200 NHL games or more only 57.3% of the time. Schenn has 192 age 22.

So Schenn really is not worth in real term value below a 10th pick.

11+ because the top 10 you don't want to give up your pick. I rather have a Horvat, Nicushkin or Monahan rather than Schenn.

God damn wording in the title. I voted 5th because that's the lowest pick I'd trade Schenn for if I were the Flyers. As one of the teams holding a top 10 pick, it'd have to be somewhere around 8th to be willing to trade it for Schenn, probably. The Jets/Cane/Leafs could probably make good use of him, given their team makeups.

I'd probably say just outside the top ten.

Intuitively I said 10th overall.

10th-12th overall picks from 2000-09:

McDonagh, Bernier, Little, Kopitar, M. Staal, Carter, Hamhuis, Hodgson, Myers.

You are likely to get a NHL player but most of them aren't first line or first pairing players, but more of Nystrom, Kostitsyn and Ellerby quality but there are some future stars to be found there.

6-9ish. Appleyard put it well. Brayden plays 3rd line icetime, and second unit PP time on one of the most disfunctional PP's in the history of the NHL (I really don't know what Berube is thinking with that second unit.) If a team like Buffalo for example gave him 1st line minutes+ quality PP time I am sure he would have had a much more productive year, like 30-30ish.

Except the question is for THIS DRAFT, not last years, which was much better so you want to keep that top 10 pick. In this draft I'd probably do it right around 10, give or take.

I would discuss the 6th. Might need some tweaking, but it's interesting.

Pretty much this. Id prefer to roll the dice and try and hit a homerun rather then commit to a 2nd liner / tweener, especially one not on an ELC anymore.

Teams are built around their core elite players. If you dont have those players yet, you shouldnt be trading a high pick that has potential to become an elite core player for a depth piece, even if the odds arent that great, at least youre giving yourself a chance.

This poll is as bad as the "2014 Mock Draft By Team Board Vote" that also stopped at the 11th pick...

I wouldn't trade 13th overall straight up for him.
