Team A.

If we are looking at individuals I would put it like this:

Datsyuk=Stamkos
Toews<Tavares
Kopitar<Giroux
Bergeron>=P.kane

But, I don't know what franchise has 4 players like those.

XXX - Steven Stamkos - Patrick Kane
XXX - John Tavares - Claude Giroux

Thats a crazy start to a top 6. Id make sure to get defensively repsonsible wingers in the top 6 and a decent 3rd line and im set on offense.

Datsyuk, Toews and Kopitar all cant play wing. Bergeron is better suited for centre but could play wing. It's actually a bad situation to have. Like the Pens with Crosby, Malkin and Staal and no wingers.

I don't think he picked these players because of the position, the players are clearly picked by how they play
TeamA "offensive players"
TeamB "2 way forwards" (a.k.a some of the most overrated players on hf)

If I'm building a team, Team B.
If the question is which team has better players, Team A.

Team A only cause Datsyuk is way older than anyone else.

Team B - don't even have to think about it. With those guys on the ice when does the other team ever even get a chance to posess the puck?

Team A can prob score in bunches, but even that's not a given- those are all guys that love- that NEED, to have the puck on their stick.

I know I'm the minority on this one... I guess the way I see it is like this: on team A I see Richard and Art Ross winners /contenders. On Team B I see cup winners.

One would think that having the better players would be conducive to building the better team.

One would. Except that it doesn't work that way IRL. Crosby and Malkin are arguably the best 2 players in the world, yet (stunningly) the Pens don't win the cup or even make the ECF every year. Edmonton has a lot of really talented offensive players, but they can't even get out of the basement. Skill is a must for building a successful team, but so are a whole lot of other things.

Perhaps that would be because two, three, or even four players don't make a team. Crosby and Malkin haven't had anything resembling a respectable supporting cast in years.

Toews and Kane have probably the best supporting cast in the league, and thus they have the team success to show for it.

Does that make Toews and Kane better than Crosby and Malkin? Obviously it does not.

You don't know what supporting cast either group will have. If Group A has the Pens' defense and MAF, and Group B has the Hawks' defense and Crawford, then you obviously take Group B. But you don't know anything about the supporting casts. Group A has better players than Group B, therefore you take Group A. It's simple logic.

Great post. Group A has the better players by a decent margin. It's easier to find complementary players for Group A than it is for Group B.

No need to defend when you can possess the puck as much as the guys from A

The OP says that everyone in the poll is magically 25. When Datsyuk was younger, he was a PPG+ player with Selke level defense. He is arguably the best player in the poll. I'd still take team A though.

Not really close when you but Stamkos, Giroux, and Tavares all on one team

It's close but I take team B. I think team B can have games where they score like team A, but don't think the same can be said in all other aspects of the game that B has A dominated.

Team A, though I work out a trade that sends Giroux for Toews.
