Why would Hextall as a former player and crop of the organization change the BSB mentality and dump Rinaldo, Grossmann, Emery, Rosy... all in the same off-season?

Don't get your expectations too high because you will set yourself up for major disappointment!

Hextall went out of the organization and learned how to create one of the best teams from another organization that is at the top of the league now every year. He brings his own touch to the gm position and will be a breath of fresh air.

Love the move and hopefully schenn stays now because hexy knew his time spread it would take to become a good player in this league.

I am really looking forward to seeing some players names pop up in the mill now too. Vinny now is one year in and both homer and lacy are out. I want to see what moves he has up his sleeves

Hey, Frank was all excited. Give him a break. I bet he can spell "intense".

Oh ****, with Homer out I predict that DFF will blindly hate Hextall while everyone defends him saying he can make no mistakes because he's in the front office and knows more than you.

Thank God Homer is out of there. Ya, he did alot for this team but he also made his share of epic blunders...Signing Vinny foor the term and price....as well as MacDonald being the latest. I love Luke Schenn but would still never make that deal for JVR. Would he ever look good playing with Giroux right about now.

Hopefully Hextall is opposite and not worry aboot over spending or over paying the "marquee" name just to get noticed. Philly has alot of talent in the wings and boy would Canucks love to aquire some of those players, but Philly future looks bright. Now you have a fresh set of eyes to oversee it.

Hextall has earned his stripes and cut his team, now its time for him to run the show.

Very excited for this. Hextall has been out of the organization for a few years now so he should have a better grip of how the modern nhl rolls.

We should also note how many nhl teams were wanting to speak to Hextall about their gm positions. He might have used that as a little leverage though.

He is extremely respected around the league. That should show us he should be fully capable of running the show at a high level

Pumped.

Adios, Homer. Thanks for the great 07-08 rebuild, the cup run in 2010.

That being said, time for a new direction (hopefully).

How long before he makes his first player transaction? That long plus the time it takes someone to type "Hextall is a dumb GM".

Hopefully Hextall continues the trend of building through the draft and doesn't blow things up.

I'm gonna laugh so hard when people are pissed at Hextall for signing a vet for too long/too much or makes a trade that people don't agree with. It seems like everyone on here was waiting for this day as if Hextall won't make any mistakes.

I'm lukewarm about this even though I'm glad Holmgren's titular tital of GM has been removed. However we still have Rasputin Snider with his meddling and the two conciliary Holmgren and Clarke remain ....regardless. I hope Hextall can be his own man or allowed to by the meddler in chief Snider.

Hextall should wear his famous goalie mask with the arrow and state that the BUCK stops here....

In honor of Homer....

So if Hextall is in fact in, do we think that he may have had a hand in the MacDonald extension?

I really hope Homer plays the role of buffer between Snider and Hextall's office.

I love that people think Hextall is going to come in and get rid of all the players people don't like. It is possible for sure, but my bet would be that the Flyers hired Hextall so he could continue to run the team the way it has been run in the past. Perhaps they want to go in a different direction, but that would be surprising given that Homer is still there, Snider is still there, etc. He may do things differently, for sure, but I don't foresee the Flyers going from the team they are now to a team that is all finesse and speed simply because Hextall is at the helm.

As assistant GM you realize he had the ability to suggest certain changes to the organization, like getting rid of certain players? It isn't like he just sat there with his hands up his ass saying, "when I'm GM, I'm gonna get rid of X, Y, and Z."

So wait, you think there is a chance that the assistant GM DIDN'T have a hand in the extension??? What do you think Assistant GM does? Get coffee for the GM?

Probably. He was the Assistant GM already, so I doubt he wasn't included in it.

let's hope that he learned some things from one the best in the business.

I'm not expecting him to be perfect but i expect less dumb mistakes since he got to work with Lombardi who built two great teams "Sharks,Kings".

Down boy! Down!

I didn't mean it like that. I moreso meant that do you think Hextall had more to do with the signing, seeing as he is taking over? As in, Holmgren was still "GM" by label, but Hextall is the one really behind the scenes doing everything!

If so, I bet a lot of people are already fed up with him.
