Shanahan status

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ho...s_canes-1.html

Quote:
Having ridden a stationary bike without relapse, Brendan Shanahan's recovery from the concussion he suffered Feb.17 continues to inch forward. But whether he returns to play for the Rangers this season might well depend upon the results of an examination by another specialist this afternoon in Manhattan.
I just hope Shanny isn't pushing himself too hard to be back before he's ready. I'm sure he's chomping at the bit seeing all of the great games that he's missed.

Man do I wish he was in the lineup for these games! I think Dubinsky would really benefit centering him!

he will benefit centering shanny, because shanny makes the players around him better. not like a jordan/pippen kinda way, but he gives them confidence for situations in their future

Not sure if Isbister would sit...i think it would be Dubi.....i think they would move Straka back with Jagr and then put the N-lander Avery Shanny line back together...then have Isbister on the top line with Jagr and Straka...

If/When Hossa and Shanny come back Dubi should go back to Hartford and Orr and Isbister should rotate positions in the line-up.

Hossa-Nylander-Jagr
Shanny-Straka-Avery (With Shanny taking draws)
Prucha-Cullen-Ortmeyer
Hollweg-Betts-Orr/Isbister

I like having Staka with Jagr...b/c Straka is a great backchecker and Jagr rarely does it....

yeah, which is why i was cracking up when Renney was gushing over how great a 2-way player jagr is.

did you guys hear the interview? i think its over on sams blog. i may be alone on this, but jaromir is probably the worst 2-way player on our team. without a doubt the best offensive player, but calling me a superb 2-way player....come on Tom, you cant say that with a straight face.

hes definitely not a great back checker more then half the time he doesnt which is why i cant stand him.. hes not a complete hockey player.. he might be the best offensive player in the league but he doesnt backcheck and i hate that.. i constantly get into arguements with people i know about jagr.. but i must say there have been a few times this year where he busted his butt to get back and broke up the play. but that happenss wayyyy to little

I wouldnt go anywhere near the phrase "great 2 way player" when talking about Jagr, but he does show flashes of what he could do, which I guess is why he fustrates us all. Yesterday's 3rd period comes to mind,he played great in that period, but where was he the other two periods? Also the first game back from the All Star Break against Philly,I remember a buch of us very happy with his play, but it hasnt kept up. Like everything else Jagr, when he plays inspired hockey, he is amongst the best in the game today. When he doesnt well...

Speaking of progress, word from the Rangers is that Brendan Shanahan is recovering well, but that they donít expect any major news out of his appointment with an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist today. Shanahan, as you know, has already been cleared to ride a stationary bike, leading to questions of when he might actually be able to skate. If thereís anything to report on that front, Iíll obviously let you know. But it sounds like there wonít be anything significant today.

Update (3/13/07)

As per TSN, "Brendan Shanahan, who will miss his 12th straight game Tuesday night recovering from a concussion, skated for the first time Monday. Shanahan, who has increased his workout regimen over the last four days, skated on his own for approximately a half-hour while the Rangers had the day off. There is no timetable for a return"

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=10460&hubname=

At least Shanny skated for the first time yesterday, but still no time-table for his return.

Getting cleared to skate is major news at this point. Glad to hear he seems to be progressing nicely.

This is good news. Now they just need to get into the playoffs so he can skate in another game before summer

If he is feeling that well....and has no relapse of any symptoms here in the short term, I'd think he could be back in about 2 weeks. That would put him at 5 weeks post injury a totally possible scenario.

Let Shanahan stay out. The Rangers have been playing a really good team game, defensively they've been great in front of their goaltenders in tems of keeping high percentage shots away from them. For the most part they've been great in at least getting the puck out of their own zone and out of danger. Despite a couple of games where they've blown leads they've kept everything tight and within reach. Keep him out, keep him somewhat in game shape and, if the Rangers make the playoffs, give him a game or two beforehand to warm up. The worst thing they could do is give anything to chance.

If he's deemed healthy and cleared to play by medical experts he should be inserted in the lineup ASAP. Our PP is pathetic and his presence could mean the difference between playing in the post season. He should be well rested and ready to play as long as our season lasts. If the team is worried about his conditioning from lack of playing, they can build up his ice time over a few games. Bottom line is we could sorely use him right now.
