Goaltending Question

Who is the current starter of the Minnesota Wild?
Who will start the rest of the season once all the goaltending injuries once the dust sets?
If it hasn't been released or quoted from Lemaire, who would the likely candidate be?

With one day left to make moves going into my fantasy hockey playoffs, Cam Ward went down for me and Fernandez is available..

What's the situation?
Thanks

The team won't formally admit it, but Backstrom's the starter now. There's no way they'll tinker with the goaltender situation with only a dozen games left and in the middle of a desperate playoff race. If and when he stumbles, Manny will get a chance to step in and win his job back, but as of today, it's Backstrom's job to lose.

Great, thanks a lot..
That makes my choise of goaltenders that much harder!

One more question, when is Manny expected to be back?
Thanks again.

Well, I'm with you, I'm throughly confused with the Minnesota goaltending situation. Josh Harding is up for the remainder of the season, which I'm guessing is because the team may think that Manny may have a set back if and when he plays again.

He backed up Harding a game, but doesn't look like he's going to play anytime soon. Which has me confused, is Harding up for just insurance? Or is he going to get more starts in the stretch run even with Fernandez and Backstrom healthy?

He is back. He says he's ready, the team says he's ready. The only logical reason that he's sitting is that Backstrom's the starter now. Manny's the backup, and he'll step in when needed.

Yep.

And Harding is staying up for two reasons:

a) there's nothing else for him to learn in the minors
b) it's better for him to stay up and go through the playoffs (even as a third goalie), than playing for nothing on a terrible Houston team.

There is another possibility. I wouldn't entirely rule out the idea that they're lying about the extent of Manny's injury. Something kinda nagged at me the night he replaced Backstrom and was in such a blind rage after the game. In the past, he's had a history of losing his temper when he's injured. I wondered at the time if the real reason he was so angry after that game was that his knee felt worse than he'd hoped, and it's crossed my mind a few times since then, given that Harding's gotten a start and Manny hasn't played at all since that game. They might be masking his injury.

Sooo in your opinion, what's his [Backstrom's] likelyhood of playing from March 19th - April 8th..

Since Ward went down, in my pool it's either Budaj or Backstrom I'm going to pickup.
If Backstrom plays like a starter, he'll be more valuable to me especially with his matchups..

Within 10 minutes I have to pick one of the 2 up for Ward.
I have a thread about it in the Fantasy forum as well

That's tough man, the safe play is Budaj... But Backstrom has more upside. Flip a coin.

With less save, Backstrom managed to pull out the win tonight again BUDAJ.
3-2 OT...

It seems like there isn't currently a limit on making my final move
So I've got a bit more time to think.

I might have to go for Budaj just because I could be hardpressed for getting enough quality starts.

"MINNESOTA WILD RED HOT
1st Chair: Niklas Backstrom
2nd Chair: Manny Fernandez
Skinny: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Fernandez could be back in the mix in time for Tuesday's home matchup against the Sharks. For his part, Fernandez says it will be "tough to fit in" with Backstrom and even third stringer Josh Harding playing so well. But goalies coach Bob Mason made it clear that if Fernandez returns and has his game back, that he's the No. 1 guy."

Do I consider this?
I just read it on YahooSports Fantasy blog section.

how do you pull Backstrom when he's played so well though? It could mess up the entire chemistry of the team.

Why is Harding not starting? Did he blow a game recently here that I missed? I honestly believe Harding is the real deal. Common 35 saves against Buffallo??? Not many goalies in this league hold Buffallo to a single goal.

See the post above yours. When a guy's playing as hot as Backstrom, you don't replace him until he cools down. Doesn't matter how good Harding is, the job belongs to Backstrom until he screws it up.

In addition to what Wild Thing said, I would add that Harding still doesn't have that much NHL experience. Good as he has looked, I would feel awfully uneasy about riding him in the playoffs at this point.
