Screw it. Put me down as calling the Rangers getting in at #7 and beating the Devils. That was my story after that last loss to the debs, and I'm sticking w/it.

I think I'd rather play Buffalo. It's a tough call either way...but even though we've always been on the wrong end of the scoreboard this year, all but one of the games (the first one) were decided by 1 goal.

What about going 10-3 in the final 13
Finishing 6th
And meeting Tampa Bay?
Is this possibility not even voteable?????

That would be the best option. Although, to make it to 6th, one of Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, or Atlanta will have to go on a skid. Possible, but not likely.

If the Rangers finish 7th or 8th:
1) It's unclear whether Buffalo or New Jersey will finish first in East.
2) If they win first round, they'll likely have to play the other of NJ/Buf (unless they are upset) in the second round.

One aspect to consider is the Rangers' injury situation. Are Shanahan, Tyutin, and Hossa going to return before the end of the season? If not, will they be close enough to returning to be included on the playoff roster (if they make it)?

I think having less depth due to injuries would be better against New Jersey, because it would likely be a low scoring series where 2-3 goals will win the game. Also, since Hossa and Tyutin have knee injuries, there lack of speed upon returning may be less of a problem than against Buffalo.

I don't think we have much of a chnce to beat the Sabres or Devils let alone even make the playoffs. We have so many key injuries, Hossa, Shanny, Tyutin, who were all playing at high levels when they got hurt. Even with the way Ludqvist is playing we are struggling to hold leads, so I don't think we will have enough to make the playoffs.

No, the thread isn't jinx city. The thread is just an example of young Ranger fans that aren't thinking with their head. We are going to finish 7th and beat the Devils? Yeah, ok...

Playoff teams don't give up 2-0 ad nauseum.

People are soo quick to make statements on here. If the Rangers win one, they are going deep into the playoffs, and make a serious playoff run..as some genius posted on here the other day. And if they lose one, they have no shot at the playoffs.

Plain and simple, if we somehow do make the playoffs..we aren't going past the first round. Another sweep wouldn't shock me, either.

Here's a better question: Would you rather not make the playoffs or get the 8th spot, only to get swept in the first round?

I'm kind of on the fence still. If we make the playoffs, we get back Shanahan, Hossa, and Tyutin. If everyone keeps stepping it up and playing this new found defensive system, we could still pull off a good run. (provided the chemistry stays) I'm not saying it's likely, but it looks good on paper, and the team is playing better overall. Do they have confidence issues still? Apparently yes, but I think they can still do the things they need to do to get in, and play well there. If we go in on a roll, with confidence (which means scoring more than 2 goals a night, while still maintaining a 1.76GA or whatever it is) then I think still think we could go pretty deep. If not overall this season has been a step foward towards next year. Add a few more missing pieces off season,(like another center) and this team is flat out dangerous.

No, they're dropping like flies physically, way to many injuries to over come at this point. We're definatly still in the race, right there with everyone, but I don't see us breaking away from the pack. We need some seroius luck, and we haven't got much of it this seaspm, if anything we're due for some. we're falling apart, if the Ottawa game isn't an indication.

If we can pull off a win in Atlanta tomorrow and then beat Boston at home Saturday they'll be sitting at 80pts, and most likely in sole position of the 8th spot through the weekend. At that point there will be 10 games to go, and Shanny should be back to give the lineup a much needed offensive boost. 6-4 over that stretch should be enough to get it done. It's quite possible indeed.

6-4

vs

Boston - Must win that one
Philadelphia twice - gotta bet them twice
Montreal twice - the really s*ck now - 2 wins

New York Isles twice - split 1-1
Pittsburgh twice - lose both (although the final game probably means nothing to Pittsburgh)
Toronto - lose in OT

6-3-1

But I think the Toronto game may be the deciding game - if they win the above posted "must wins" (which they probably will not)

I still have hope we'll slide into 8th. I expect Shanny back soon. A big concern is our defensive corps though. To me though it's about 50-50.

How about this: I'll say yes after every win and no after every loss. Because that's how I see most fans rationale after all the games, including my own sometimes.
