Reason for Optimism

we are playing some solid hockey, but yes we have struggled some goals, but really, i would like our chances vs every team right now if shanny and toots were back...that being said shanny comes back sometime next week....and lines like this look pretty good seeing how we have played as of late.

straka - nylander - jagr
prucha - dubinksy - shanny
avery - cullen - cally
isbister - blair - orts

never mind hossa coming back a week after toots....

plus we are in control of our own destiny at this point. with games in hand and our point total, really we are the only ones to say if we make the playoffs or not.

GO RANGERS!!!!

• The Rangers lost 2-1 in overtime to the Thrashers in Atlanta on Friday night. The Rangers have not allowed more than three goals in any of their 15 road games since the NHL's Christmas break. New York's streak of 15 consecutive road games in which it allowed three or fewer goals matches the longest single-season streak of its kind in franchise history. The Rangers did the same in their final 15 road contests in 1932-33 and then went on to win their second Stanley Cup.

Doesn't mean anything if they can't score/make the playoffs

This team was horible before all the injuries, so I don't want to hear all the excuses now, the call-ups have been good but it is hard to expect rookies to come into the final 10-15 games and be offensive forces. Good hopes for the future though, until we sign some more 30 something has beens in the summer, then it will be the same old story.

Well even though Shanny had slowed down prior to his injury, the guy does have something like 54 points in 58 games. If he converted for a goal or an assist on even 1 of the 5 PP chances they had last night we get 2 points instead of 1.

Love it.

Plus Shanahans "intuition" told him he must sign w/ Blueshirts.

The Stars are aligning

Who the hell woulda thought our biggest problem woudl be scoring goals, and not keeping them out? Hank cant only bail them out for so long. Any bets tonight that Aaron Ward takes a shot or two at Jagr?

hossa in place of isbister when he gets healthy. ive never been a huge isbister fan. not that i have a problem with him, but i dont favor him much. when he's out there, hes a machine that needs greased. it just doesnt look natural. thats my opinion...maybe its just a personal thing too?

yeah but hossa is out for a few more weeks so when shanny comes back just move isbister down to where orr is..that way he can have some more puck control on the 4th line

Let's put aside the playoff race for the moment. What you are seeing before your eyes is a change in philosophy on how we play our game. The key ingredient is defense. Now it sounds ridiculous to say that with some of the dmen we have now, but, defense is not just about the 6 guys on the blueline, it is a team effort.

This I think is a prelude to the style we will be playing in the next two to three years. The emphasis will be on tight and sound defensive play and a hard forecheck system that will shorten the ice for offensive opportunities, a hockey version of the full court press.

You see players like Dubi and Callahan and the eventual addition of players like Pyatt & Dupont & Korps and others and the style they play. Add Avery, Prucha, Orts, Hollweg and Hossa and it all fits into the style I suggested. The real strong point will be Sauer, Staal, Baranka and Tyutin on the backline and backed up by Lundqvist & Montoya.

hossa - straka - jagr
avery - nylander - shanny
prucha - cullen - orts
isbister - blair - hollweg

Orr

Cally and Dubinsky back to Hartford

Tom Renney has spoken

I would like (playoff time when fighting is out)

hossa - straka - jagr
avery - nylander - shanny
prucha - cullen - orts
isbister - dubinsky - callahan

Hollweg, Orr and Betts resting

I think that this as a 4th line could be more productive (even with 5-7 minute ice time) than Hollweg-Betts-Orr has been for most of the year.
Face it - they have produced a meager 10 goals together all year - despite playing a total of 183 games together. They have amassed an impressive 243 PMs though.

nobody in the conference has more points than us in their last 10 games. 6 more wins and we're in!
