Kostitsyn = Dagenais

Yes to me he's our new Dagenais.

I mean.....for the shootout.

He's 2 for 2 so far and both times looked realy easy.
Except I think we'll get alot more out of him during the rest of the game.
I bet that title got your attention.

Edit: ok he's 1 for 2. I somehow thought he already had one shootout goal. But I still have more confindence in him than most of our players for the shootout.

Yes, he's very good in shootout. Each time we have a shootout, he should be one of the 3 first players to go (Koivu first, Kovalev second and Kostitsyn third).

AHL is also the 3rd league in the world. He got the icetime required there. It was better to him to play 1st icetime in the 3rd league than 6 minutes of time of ice in the NHL, IMO.

That's my whole point - if we never signed Samsonov we could've started Kostitsyn on the second line and given up those kinds of minutes all year long. But no one can say for sure if Kostitsyn benefitted from spending another year in the AHL, and if he would be as good as what we're seeing now if he hadn't...so I digress.

Yep, me too. I was very happy with the Samsonov signing, like pretty much everyone else here. No sense playing a game of revisionist's history now, what happened happened.

Actually I think Kostitsyn spending time in the AHL is good because it had a great role in easing Grabovsky's transition in the NA.

Hotdogglue: I don't think it's quite that simple. Kostitsyn simply wasn't NHL-ready earlier in the season and had a lot to work on. It seems his time in Hamilton made him hungrier to get back and, at the sametime, work on his game. He even said himself that he believe's he's here to stay this time and he won't be rejoining Hamilton because the NHL is the best league in the world. When he went back to Hamilton he was racking up points at a furious pace, even moreso to rpove he's ready. Hands down, he's ready this time around. Now, it's fair to say he is replacing Samsonov. It wouldn't surprise me if Gainey bought out Sammy in the summer.

Grabovsky; now there's a guy you'll see come up next year and earn a spot on the team. He'll be ready at some point next year and progress like Kostitsyn did.

Koivu quote about Kost after the Leaf game

"Let's settle down and don't push him," said Canadiens captain Saku Koivu, who also had a goal in regulation and in the shootout. "He's a young, very talented player working his way up to the NHL."

Good for Saku. He's trying to deflect pressure from Kostitsyn, so the media doesn't eat him alive whne he has a few bad games and chase him out of town as they've done with so many others before him.

This is a classic example of the media pumping up a player only to knock him down later on. Let's be patient with our young guys like Lats, Laps, Kost, and even Perezhogin. These guys are all going to improve since they're all still so young.
