There's something slightly disturbing about a dad describing his son that way... when you think about it . Yeah, I'm taking it far too literally, but I happen to be one of those people to whom words still mean something
Then you'd probably be more disturbed to hear which family member actually bought those shirts for the clan.
The rumor that Jack did not want to play for Carolina was just that: A Rumor.
His denial of this publicly was not just for show. He really had no problem playing for the Canes, and would have played for any team that wanted him. These Hurricane fans that hate Johnson because they feel he shunned them have no idea what they're talking about.
Rutherford basically told him: You will sign with us, or we are going to trade you.
Jack told him go ahead.
The Canes organization essentially harrassed his family for months, and figured trading him was some form of punishment. Johnson told them repeatedly that he had committed to Red Berenson (UM's Coach) for a minimum of 2 years, and he was not going to go back on his promise. Karmanos made a comment that is now printed and posted in the Johnson family kitchen, they traded him, and that was that.
People thinking he wanted out of Carolina and is much happier in LA don't realize that Johnson could have left early for the Kings and hasn't yet. Just like he wasn't going to for Carolina. The logic makes sense.
That said, he has said that he would rather play in California and for the Kings. He likes the organization and their treatment of players more.
If UM loses their first game in the Tournament (which is this upcoming Friday), Jack will jump on a plane to Minnesota. March 24, 2007 the debut of Jack Johnson? Could be.
If they win and lose their 2nd game, the debut will be in San Jose on Tuesday (3/27).
If they win 2 or more games, wait until fall to see Johnson.
