He's a junior, so he's got one more of college eligibility.

I've been following him this year; he's been very impressive. You can count on him to score even when his team loses, something they've done a lot of, even though he'll get them a goal or two per game almost without fail.

If he can keep this up, he'd certainly be worth signing and sending to Milwaukee to see how he copes in the pro game.

He played the whole game and was amazing.

Gonna be interesting to follow his career.

A bit of an update on Nashville prospect Lauris Darzins. He started the year on Ilves Tampere in FNL but was dropped of the team due to horrible results. For a while he was pretty much unemployed but since January has joined Vsetin HC in the Czech top league and has 2 goals in 9 games. Just recently he played for the Latvian National team in a Polesje Cup (four team tournament Belarus - Belarus National team, Latvian national team, Canadian national (amateur) team (dead last...) and Russian RSL team "Salavat Julajev") and did fairly well with 3+3 in 3 games and being the best point producer for Latvia. Of course, none of the teams were of the caliber of World Championship.

Hörnqvist added a couple of assists todays game vs. N. Bäckströms (who wasn't playing due to a cold) team Brynäs.

Point total now up to 19 goals + 10 assist (29p) in 42 games played. That makes him tied for second in his team for scoring, however he has less games played than the other guy.

he buried his 20th goal today ... our scouting has improved exponentially over the last few years, so it seems

Janne Niskala update: 47GP 15G 28A 43PTS +17

He's 2nd in the SEL in scoring for defensemen and 8th overall in scoring for the SEL. Not too shabby! A Zidlicky clone?

Kulyash's injury riddled season and recent poor play have just gotten him sent down to the First Division. He will now be playing for farm team Dynamo-2, which is, suffice to say, quite a significant step down from [practically] being on Russia's 2006 Olympic team.

The Count is now at 22 ... his team was down 2-1 going into the 3rd period ... out scored the opposition 4-1 in the final period ... won 5-3

I know the talk is that the Preds want Hornqvist to play another year in Sweden, but I'd love to see him in Milwaukee next year with some decent playmakers in O'Reilly and Peverley.

Teemu Laakso scored his third of the season on Saturday. A goal that tied the game 2-2 in the third. They lost in the shootout, though. Played a really good game as well. He's been really playing well again when the team has been heavily hit by injuries and Laakso's ice time has been on the rise again (clocked over 30 minutes in this game).

He also had an assist a few games back when they lost 2-8 and played pretty well in that game as well (at least he couldn't really be blamed for most of the goals scored against them...) which really showed in his ice time since he had second most ice time (tied for first in shifts) on his team in the third period (a period which they won 1-0).

Anyways, outside of that one game (and a few other smaller lapses) his team has had one of the tightest defenses in the league and Laakso has been a big part of that. Especially when they had 3 key defensemen injured at the same time at one point.

Hornqvist is a no show in the biggest game of the season (playoffs on the line) and Lassila lets in 3 goals as DIF is eliminated from the playoffs with a 4-2 Final

Finally got around to doing this and good timing since Michigan and NMU face each other in the playoffs this weekend.

I have put online the edited full game video I shot of the January 13 between Northern Michigan and Michigan. Single handcam from the press box. This game features, I believe, 19 NHL prospects including the likes of T.J. Hensick, Jack Johnson, Andrew Cogliano, Billy Sauer, and Nashville prospect Mike Santorelli, who scored both NMU goals in this game.

The audio is the NMU feed. This is a 2 gigabyte file already in MPG2 format, so definitely download it to your hard drive, and if you have the capability, you can burn it onto a DVD and watch it on TV. I tried uploading the full 4GB file, but for unknown reasons my host kept stopping it after 2GB were uploaded. The quality should still be okay.

I'm still working on editing the Jan. 12 game and will let you know when that is uploaded.

Here's the link to the video page on my website. Let me know if you have any problems.

With the regular season now over, Laakso's stats are:

50GP 3G 6A 9P +1 70PIM (25 minors, 2 misconducts)

(Average ice time exactly 20 minutes per game)

So, nothing spectacular, but he's been very solid defensively throughout the season and the coach seems to trust him. Especially the amount of PK time he's gotten has surprised me.

He didn't get much time on the PP except for the last 10-15 games, and even then it wasn't much.

The playoffs will start 8 days from now. I expect their team to drop in the first round, but we'll see.

This one I don't believe at all ... I believed Weber's final ranking somewhere in the top 10 ... this one ... not so much

We have 1 player in the top 50!!!!! Poile should fired for his drafting as of late and for trading all those prospects/picks for nothing (Witt and Forsberg). Parent's a top 10 prospect now that he's Flyer

With Dinamo Moscow out of the playoffs, there are reports that Kulyash has been invited to the national team's pre-Worlds and finals of the Eurotour training camp - Kulyash's first callup to the national team of this (for the most part) poor season. Dinamo's coach, Vladimir Krikunov has also recently gone on record saying that Kulyash will not be playing for Dinamo in 2007-2008 despite having a contract for next season. However, when asked if Kulyash would be heading to North America, Krikunov replied that he has spoken to the Predators managment about the matter and that nobody is waiting for Kulyash in Nashville. Moreover, he quoted Poile as saying: "Let him play in Russia for another five or so years." I would assume that there is some exaggeration in these words as Krikunov's has been at Kulyash's throat all season long with demotions to the farm team, public statements that he regretted signing him, etc. If Polie isn't, in fact, against bringing Kulyash over - the rift between Krikunov and his former goldenboy would certainly make now the perfect time to do it.

You can afford to trade "all those prospects/picks" when you drafted / signed a good team like he has.
