I just hate their tendency to draft for the 4th line. Who does that? Why do that? It should be something Hextall changes, I hope.

Shafer should be entering this thread soon telling us all the Flyers drafting record is one of the best in the history of hockey.

We need to hire away David Polie. Then allow us to pick a forward in the first round, then let him to find the gems on D and in goal after that.

Well as far as I know none of them have played for the Flyers.

And Philly has drafted other players than the Ghouls, Rinaldos, Mathers and Klotz' of the world.

But you'd think when your track record of drafting after the 1st round is as abysmal as the Flyers, and when you look around at the Webers/Subbans/Datsyuks/Keiths etc. etc. etc. selected later on, that you'd stop wasting picks, or at least stop reaching on guys with very low ceilings.

And I do think Holmgren finally did see it was time to draft differently last draft...going defence with 1st AND 2nd round picks...but then Goulbourne was there and he went all old school on us again.

Everyone was so psyched about the Hagg pick, and then Homer pulled the rug out from under us.

Both Shelley and Holmgren are gone. Why are we still talking about it?

Because on a hockey forum people tend to talk about hockey things.

If he became a Carcillo clone he'd considered a huge success. But more realistically he'll be a Rinaldo type. Maybe even worse.

So does anyone think this guy will even make it to the Phantoms?

I read an article from a while back saying that he turned down an AHL contract because he was waiting out for a 2-way deal. If something doesn't happen with him by June we'll lose him to ufa right? Now THAT would be a massive waste of a pick.

I think he goes unsigned and becomes a free agent next summer.

It was pretty much a waste the moment it was announced.

If he plays well he may replace Stortini on the Phantoms next season. Maybe that could even happen during the season?

His elbow injury set him back quite a bit; he never got a chance to play in any of the rookie games or preseason games.

At the time I wanted hagg or bowey. Bowey has really impressed since being drafted.

Goulbourne has 3 points in 2 games so far, so I'm a little confused why the thread got bumped.

I remember him standing out in the rookie game against the Caps. He has a girl's first name, though.

It would be good if he could replace Stortini, but do you even think that would happen? I mean the kid can fight, that's basically all he's known for, but he's not exactly ideal goon size. Plus I heard he's been trying to cut down on his fighting at Kelowna. Lets not forget that we have the currently injured Ryan White on a 2-way contract too, unless he took Rinaldos spot I can't really see him sticking around the Flyers roster.

and yes for all those who think we are "whining" we have every right to criticize the pick. it wasn't a good pick at all. not at the Klotz level of dumb but a dumb pick. Just because someone else wanted him doesn't mean we have to reach for him.
If we can praise Holmgren and the scouts for draft picks like Ghost than getting on them for the bad picks is fine.
