I've heard Leipold has already fired Poile. He sent him a termination letter post-dated at the end of the season.

a few thoughts from last night;

...radulov. the kid is a better hockey player every day. you can simply see the growth of his overall game out there each night. all these injuries, forcing more of a role on him might be the best thing that ever happened to the guy. oh, that and forsberg.

...forsberg. notice our most dangerous line these last two games?. fiddler and radulov. think it's an coincidence that happened? forsberg is rounding into shape, and it couldn't come at a better time. get everyone healthy, add in an improved radulov and a forsberg playing with confidence and this is going to be some more team.

...the second unit, with some amazing shifts, where they cycled the puck for over a minute.. of course they never really got super scoring chances from all that ooffensive zone time, but they were an impressive demo of puck control.

...kariya is kind of fighting it right now. things just missing in the offensive zone. that 2 on 1 with legwand a perfect example, a shot he makes normally. he's playing hard, we just need him to get hot again right now.

...poor edmonton. they truly do stink right now. that is a very weak lineup they're forced to ice. but they play hard.

...i actually thought we were very lucky in our own end last night. they had two or three chances, that normally would have been buried in our net. that awful turnover by suter when he passed the puck straight to the guy right in the low slot and he just couldn't get a handle on it. then lupul breaks in off the halfboard straight alone with vokoun and fumbles the puck away. couple of times when they fired the puck just over the net. the zidlicky soft pass that was intercepted at the blueline on the pp that they couldn't convert. they simply looked snakebit.

...peverly still looks totally lost out there most shifts. been a tough adjustment to the kid.

...arnott was only 2 for 13 on faceoffs. legwand though was 11 for 16 and offset that some. have noticed trotz is allowing legwand to take more and more defensive zone draws, of course a big part of that is nichol being out, but he's doing a better job in the faceoff dot these last 15-20 games and it shows.

how sweet is the future, when you look at the scoresheet and see our first three goals are from radulov, weber and suter?..

anyway, now we pray for help from anaheim monday night. and guard against the first game back from a long roadtrip letdown tuesday ourselves.. going to be a remarkable week of hockey for us as a franchise and as diehard fans, whatever happens.. a week for the ages...

It was a bad joke. I didn't laugh.

Forsberg was awesome, though he kept posting up along the blueline waiting for a pass. It was hilarious sitting in the section we were. All you heard was "God is Forsberg strong. Look, there's three guys on him and he still comes away with the puck." He would control the puck forever along the boards and would draw 2 if not 3 guys on him.
Arnott needs to use his size more. There were a few times that he could have LEVELED someone and he laid off. Maybe he felt bad for them.

I totally agree with Kariya fighting it, though he did make a few really awesome plays. During the 3rd he busted through their whole team untouched. He did that twice and then got LEVELED by Smith. As much as I LOVE Kariya, that was an awesome hit. He got back up, said something to Smith and then got back in the play. No worse for wear. He had a few really good shots on net, and was working really hard along the boards, digging, and going into scrums with reckless abandon.

Abid and Perverly hurt my heart. PLEASE boys get better.

It was an entertaining game.

Well, there's a reason Abid has been hanging around so long without getting a long look at the NHL - and Peverly is really young. IMO he is going to be at least a solid third liner one day...

The City Paper stole my headline from this game. The injuries have had one positive effect: They more or less forced Trotz to play Rads in more high level situations. R is skating with WAY more confidence, playing much more solidly away from the puck, and find the open looks. He looks much more dangerous now. This is important to the team.
