He's the kind of guy where he could really surprise people. He's not a physical player, but he's a really smart 3rd liner with middle six upside. I'm a little annoyed at this trade, as it give us virtually nothing for a perfectly competent player. That said, he wasn't being given a shot in MTL, so hopefully he will in Anaheim. He won't though. Anaheim has even more depth, so he'll just be a career AHLer in Anaheim, unless he moves elsewhere. The issue that I have with this trade is that he's the kind of player that will get better with age, but he apparently has some issues that the Habs management aren't willing to deal with.

Well, if he develops a lot better skill, much better hockey sense, the ability to pass, the ability to shoot and gets bigger, then yeah, there's a possibility.

He'll likely be a bottom 6 guy for Anaheim. They seem to make our former 1st rounders useful.

2009 is looking to be a terrible draft for impact players beyond the top-end of the 1st.

Is Benn still worth a 4th round pick? Leblanc isn't worth a 1st anymore but this trade just highlights the failure that pick was and how this is not a win by any means.

It was a ****** pick at the time for a player with no real 1st round talent. Yet another "all round" player that doesn't have the skills to stick in the nhl.

Don't want to be an ass but I bet this opened up a lot of eyes for SOME Habs fans who probably included him in some trade proposals.

To me Louis Leblanc is definitely a legit 3rd or 4rth center, we just had too many rookies at center with Galchenyuk and Eller and he didn't seem to have a good relationship with MTL/Hamilton's management. I don't like this trade for Montréal but Leblanc deserves to play in the NHL. I'll gladly watch him play for the Ducks (my 2nd favourite team) if he does make the team.

If he's waiver eligible, it makes plenty of sense for the Habs. Better to get a conditional 5th for him than nothing at all when they lose him on waivers trying to send him down. Ducks will probably end up losing him while trying to send him down to the AHL anyway, unless they want to burn a roster spot on their NHL club with him...which seems unlikely. Although that's probably what the condition is...something to do with him sticking with the Ducks organization in some capacity.

While he's waiver eligible, from a Ducks perspective, there's not a whole lot to be worried about. I don't see much fear in another team claiming him, and if they do, chances are they'll put him on waivers again, where the Ducks will just claim him back and send him to Norfolk.

Well said and a lot more reality based then a lot of the mindless rants that are filling the pages here.

I'll always remember Leblanc as the hometown pick taken by the Habs 1 spot before the Rangers drafted Kreider.

According to the list photo'ed by RDS on draft day, the Habs apparently had Moore, Schroeder, and Josefson ahead of Kreider still on their list, so there wasn't really any scenario in which the Habs would have taken Kreider there, even if Leblanc hadn't been available to them.

So basically, the Habs were doomed with that pick no matter what.

Good trade for Anaheim. Low risk gamble. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

Anaheim aren't giving up a 5th unless he plays 15 NHL games for us next season.

Could very well be that they sign him to a 1 year deal to look at him in Training Camp which then means:

a) He doesn't impress and he's waived and is claimed

b) Passes through waivers and goes down to our AHL team to add depth when they are likely losing 2 centers already for next season

c) He makes the NHL team it must mean he's played pretty well and worth it to give up the 5th rounder. It's not exactly easy to crack our bottom 6 as a role player right now.

Win-win for Anaheim. Only give up the pick in scenario c

When a fanbase collectively drops to their knees for a prospect before he does anything, you can see how it can **** with their development.

The change of scenery could be a good wake-up call.

Meh. The clever shots at the Habs and Francophones are delightful though.

Anaheim just got themselves a free player for their AHL team, because their is no chance that Louis makes you're team. The only way that occurs if he drastically changes his mindset and comes to terms that he will never be a top six forward in this league.

The problem is that he is not even good defensively. So ANA what you got is a player who is not skilled enough to play top six minutes or tough enough to play bottom six minutes.

Along with a player who has a crappy attitude. The guy thought the habs owed him the world and he got passed on the depth chart by people like gallagher, bournival, galchenyuk etc... This guy has zero desire to play a tough game, hopefully it works out for him in Anaheim
