I expect any move that brought in a top paid center would probably involve dealing Brassard the other way.

No way NYR can afford an 8 million, 4 million, and 3 million center.

Stepan, D Moore (if he stays), Staal (if he's retained), Girardi, Nash (yes, he was a captain before). I think plenty to go around...

This I disagree with. The Rangers best play is not nearly good enough to compete against the likes of the Kings or Bruins. They did not loose to lack of skill. They lost because the bigger team took a big enough bite of them to where there was no getting off of the matt.

I am not expecting huge injections. Nor calling for massive changes. I am however, saying that the metamorphosis needs to start.

To me, if the team wants to be a true contender, they need is desperate.
The team just played in the Stanley Cup Final. They lost 3 games in overtime. They are a "true contender" already.

I don't disagree that moves need to be made to improve but this nonsense about "a true rebuild" and a "true contender" should be over.

Boyle

Also if Stralman wants years, give them to him. Sounds like he won't be impossible to re-sign if Sather/Gorton aren't dumb.

I would LOVE to see this.

So far Slats has made term the hill he is willing to die for though... I could understand it for 32 y/o, but a 27 y/o?

Slats should be SHOT unless he offers Strålman the following contract:
5m
5m
5m
5m
3m
3m
3m
3m

NTC limited to 10 teams.

Very little risk long term. If Stralman keeps playing at the level he is no, he would be a STEAL in few years while the cap keep going up. If we don't want him -- he could always be traded.

I remember reading about CAR being in a tough spot financially.

How does retaining salary work? Can it be just the cap hit, or does it have to be both the cap hit and the actual salary. ie- Could CAR retain $4m of cap and we agree to pay the whole $8.25 he is actually owed (or whatever the actual number is)?

He is a good D and he looked VERY good for us when he played in reasonable circumstances.

Remembers that when he played in the finals, he had only played 45 minutes the last two months. That is ridiculous, nobody can step in at that level and do more after being out for so long...

Diaz has played good top 4 hockey for MTL and could definitely grow into that role here in NY, just like Stralman and Rozsival have for us before.

I definitely hope that he is resigned!

Agreed.

Some spoiled kids will take the money and don't take care of themselves. You can say a lot about Stralman, but he would perform no matter if he is playing for a contract or not.

Eight years minimum.

I'd give Stralman a long term deal if it cut down on the cap hit, given the cap trajectory.

Do the same thing for Staal.

Lock this group of top 4 defensemen up for a long, long time together. Give this NYR team an identity of continuity like the Red Wings.

Hadn't considered that. That's a great point.

I just feel like he's been underwhelming in every game I've seen him play with NY or with MTL.

I don't mind him as a 7/6, but I really don't see him as a top 4 on a good team. If he can grow into it, that's awesome. I'm skeptical but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Boyle's gonna make bank. Sad to him go-- resign Moore for cheaper and go with Fast-Moore-Dorse or something.

It's imperative to keep Stralman. Trade Klein or do something and give the man his money. Letting Stralman go and hoping Klein, who went up against the second weakest competition all playoffs, can step into that role is foolish.

I take G-Stralman-McIlrath on the right side over G-Klein-??? any day. The problem is that John Moore isn't very good so McIlrath would have a subpar partner to work with and it would probably be a brutal pairing.

Maybe Raph Diaz can step into the spot, too. But we HAVE to keep Stralsy.

8 Years if the max you can re-sign with the new CBA. 7 Years for a free agent from another team

I would like to see Poo stay. That line has so much chemistry. This team fits Poo's career well as well. He can flourish here if he plays like he did the second half of the season and into the playoffs with Brass and Zucc.

Brassard needs to be re-signed. Same with Zucc.

Richards will be bought out. I dont know who you replace him with. But we need a better center.

I'd love for Stralman to stay but who knows.
I do not think that you can have a team with Hagellin, MSL, Brassard, Moore & Zucc and compete with the likes of what the Kings just showed you.

Yes, the Rangers made the finals with those players. But it is evident that changes need to be made. And with that come decisions. If the price for keeping Boyle & Stralman and extending Staal, is loosing Brassard, Moore & Poulliot, so be it. Now that is just my view. Maybe Sather values Brassard's skill as a 2nd line center more than Stralman's play as a 2nd pair defenseman. Maybe he would rather have more skill and keep Moore over a Boyle. Lots of maybes. One thing that I am sure of is that the team needs to change and grow in size. Tough decisions are just that.

I could easily see Stralman going instead of Boyle. In fact, I can easily see them both going and think it'd be a couple of big mistakes.

But the reason I think Stralman has a better chance of going is that, ultimately, the Rangers will make a decision that they can produce D-men at a better clip than produce any players that give what Boyle gives.

Sather coveted Brassard for years. Hes not going anywhere. I also don't think he'll be getting 4.5.

He'll be tough on his RFAs like he always is.

I was discussing him with two and I use the term very loosely "semi-intelligent" friends and 3.8 was a realistic number I saw him signing at. I was laughed at and told 5m+.

Haha. I think it is dependent on term which seems to be more of a priority for Stralman. If they were looking at a 2 or 3 year deal, I could see him getting closer to 4.5 for the short term. Realistically if they bargain with him and give him 5-6 years, the cap hit should be much closer to 3.5 - 4.
